Union of Ethiopian Women and Children Associations (UEWCA) is non-governmental, non-political and non-partisan consortium of 80 Women, Girls and Children focused on Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that are engaged on the empowerment and gender equality in all regional states and city administrations of Ethiopia. UEWCA was established in 2010 as a platform to voice the voice of its members and beneficiaries as well as to capacitate and coordinate the efforts of its member CSOs and Stakeholders towards seeing well-dignified, empowered, healthy, vibrant and visionary women, girls and children in Ethiopia.

Job Description

Duty Station: Head Office, Addis Ababa

Employment Type: Full-time Duration: 10 months (with possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability)

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Organizational background

Union of Ethiopian Women and Children Associations (UEWCA) is a non-partisan, non-profit umbrella organization of women’s and children’s associations working to advance women’s rights, gender equality, and child protection across Ethiopia. UEWCA strives to enhance the participation and leadership of women and girls in development, strengthen civic engagement, and promote inclusive and sustainable community transformation.

UEWCA is currently implementing two projects:

  1. “Empowering Civic Participation through Dialogue and Digital Tools” – a national initiative with activities in the Gambella Region aimed at boosting civic engagement, inclusive dialogue, and digital literacy.
  2. “Supporting Transformative Action and Resilience of GBV Survivors and Vulnerable Communities” – implemented in Raya Kobo, Habru, Lasta, and Bugna Woredas of the North Wollo Zone, Amhara Region, focusing on strengthening community-based protection mechanisms and improving the resilience of GBV survivors and vulnerable groups.

To ensure the effective and timely implementation of these projects, UEWCA is seeking to recruit a qualified and motivated Project Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • ·Support planning, coordination, and execution of project activities according to approved work plans and budgets.
  • ·Facilitate coordination between the head office and project team.
  • ·Organize and monitor community dialogues, awareness-raising events, and capacity-building sessions.
  • ·Contribute to digital engagement initiatives and promote civic participation through online tools.
  • ·Collect, compile, and analyze project data for reporting and learning purposes.
  • ·Ensure gender equality, inclusion, and human rights principles are mainstreamed throughout project activities.
  • ·Strengthen collaboration with government stakeholders, CSOs, and community structures.
  • ·Participate in monitoring visits, joint review meetings, and donor reporting.
  • ·Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • ·Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

About You

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Project Management, or related fields.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in project implementation or coordination within NGOs or women-focused organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in gender equality, GBV prevention and response, community mobilization, or civic engagement projects.
  • Knowledge of project cycle management, reporting, and partnership coordination.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
