Job Description
Job Summary:
– The Animal Nutritionist will lead the formulation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of feeding programs for ORO-Meat’s beef, sheep, and goat operations. The role focuses on maximizing meat yield and quality, ensuring animal health and welfare, and reducing production costs through evidence-based nutrition strategies and the efficient use of local feed resources.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Feed Formulation & Management
- Design balanced rations tailored to ORO-Meat’s species mix, growth stages, and production targets.
- Evaluate and optimize use of locally available ingredients (e.g., by-products from agro-industry) to control costs and support sustainability.
- Oversee feed procurement, storage, and quality control, including regular nutrient testing.
Performance & Health Monitoring
- Track feed conversion ratios, growth rates, and carcass quality; adjust rations based on performance data.
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to prevent and manage nutrition-related disorders.
- Develop protocols for mineral supplementation, water quality, and feed hygiene.
Research & Development
- Conduct on-farm trials to improve feed efficiency and meat quality.
- Stay updated on innovations in feed additives, precision nutrition, and sustainable feeding technologies.
Training & Advisory Support
- Train farm supervisors and feed-mill staff on ration mixing, feed safety, and best practices.
- Provide regular reports and recommendations to management on feeding costs, animal performance, and market-driven adjustments.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure all feeding practices meet Ethiopian regulatory standards and any export-market requirements (e.g., traceability, feed safety).
- Maintain detailed records for audits, certifications, and traceability programs.
Working Conditions
- Based primarily at ORO-Meat’s production farm.
- Requires occasional travel to suppliers, feed mills, and market sites.
- Flexible hours to monitor feeding operations as needed.
Qualification and Skills
Education
- Animal Science, Animal Nutrition, Veterinary Science or related fields.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 year relevant work experience.
