HIRING NEED: April 2026 – December 2027; 80% position – Monday-Thursday workdays

SALARY: $60,000/year for 80% position.

CORE Group fosters collaborative action and learning to improve and expand community-focused public health practices. Established in 1997 in Washington D.C., CORE Group is an independent not-for-profit hybrid, membership organization, and home of the International Community Health Network, which brings together over 15,000 global health practitioners – CORE Group member organizations, scholars, advocates, and donors to support the global health of underserved women, children, adolescents, and communities around the world.

Following a successful phase 1 of “Small Grants for Scaled Impact,” a small grants program in South and East Asia, CORE Group is implementing Phase 2 of “Small Grants for Scaled Impact,” a participatory 3-year small grants program to advance Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (SRMNCAH) programming, policy, and interventions in priority countries within Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya and Malawi) by providing financial, SRMNCAH technical, and organizational resources to local women-led, youth-led, people with disabilities-led organizations. This approach will strengthen local and national organizations’ technical and organizational capacity to design and implement community-based solutions to SRMNCAH challenges, focusing on gender transformation, quality of care, and health equity.

“Small Grants for Scaled Impact,” focuses on the overall outcome of: Community based solutions for SRMNCAH developed and implemented to strengthen the national health system to become sustainable in the longer term.

Additionally, the project has the following objectives:

Objective 1: To strengthen the technical and organizational capacity of selected partners in implementing SRMNCAH programs
Objective 2: To provide critical financial resources to women-led, youth-led, people with disabilities-led organizations to implement SRMNCAH programs.
Objective 3: To construct an improved grantmaking mechanism for RMNCAH through a participatory approach of all the parties involved in the small grants program.
Objective 4: To promote a culture of capturing and sharing learning, and generate to wider scale including police makers

The Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health (SRMNCAH) technical advisor will, in coordination, with the SRMNCAH Project Manager, be primarily responsible for providing technical support and tailored training to the SRMNCAH Small Grants for Scaled Impact (SGSI) program and its grantees.

The role will also include supporting the implementation of a technical and knowledge exchange program for SGSI grantees, in coordination with CORE Group communications. The advisor will collaborate within the team to conduct technical visits (physical or digital) to SGSI grantees as per the project activities and the monitoring and evaluation plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES

General responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

In collaboration with the project manager, develop the technical capacity of grantees, in areas of SRMNCAH. Where specific expertise is not available internally, support the process of hiring of consultants. Promote a relationship of mentorship and coaching with grantees for improved implementation of projects.
Maintain current, local, regional and global evidence and information on emerging trends and good practices for SRMNCAH programs. Share widely new information and support learning platforms and benchmarking for grantees to improve the quality of SRMNCAH projects. Support the adoption and implementation of evidence-based interventions relevant for the improvement of SGSI projects.
Support an internal and external learning agenda by the collection, documentation and analysis of SGSI project strategies, approaches and ongoing implementation experience for lessons learned, best practices, and use for planning future strategies, and where possible project scale up.
In partnership with the Project Manager, review and provide feedback on SGSI grantees’ narrative reports and measure their reported results against an already established results matrix. Where gaps are identified, develop a response mechanism that increases the capacity of the organization closing such gaps.
Support the implementation of the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) plan to document the level of implementation in alignment to the results matrix. In conjunction with the project manager, conduct M&E activities or contacts by participating in virtual or physical visits to grantees.

Partnership development & external relations

When delegated, represent CORE Group in SRMNCH meetings, forums, conferences etc., that are of importance to CORE Group and, if requested, share the progress and learnings of the SGSI program.
Meet with local leaders and Ministries of Health when necessary, and in line with the project activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in public health, global/international health, health policy and/or management.
Other areas of education preferred: Sexual and Reproductive Health, Maternal, Newborn and Child Nursing or Midwifery.
Demonstrated technical experience in SRMNCAH (5+ years) and expertise working with low-and-middle-income countries, with equitable approaches.
Experience in SRMNCAH technical capacity building of community-based organizations, participatory approaches, and understanding of the principles of decolonization of global health, as well as health equity approaches.
Experience in managing small grants/sub-grant programs.
Experience working with non-governmental organizations in Africa.
Experience working within remote teams and the ability to work with flexibility managing multiple time zones.
Experience in Microsoft Suite, Office365, video conferencing software, and project management software.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to multi-task, solve problems and manage multiple deadlines.
Fluency in English required. Knowledge of a local language an added asset
Currently living in East and Southern Africa, preferably in one of the priority countries (Kenya, Ethiopia, or Malawi).
