PFM and Livelihood Facilitators

Ethio Wetlands and Natural Resources Association (EWNRA) is a non-political, non-religious, and non-profit Ethiopian Civil Society Organization committed to the sustainable management of wetlands and natural resources while improving the livelihoods of local communities.

With financial support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) through the Development Fund of Norway, EWNRA is implementing the project “Improving Rights, Sustainable Livelihoods, and Forest Management in Southwestern Ethiopia” in the Gambela, Oromia, and Southwest Ethiopia Regional States.

To support the successful implementation of the project, EWNRA invites qualified, experienced, and motivated professionals to apply for the following positions.

Number of Positions: Two (2) One for Gambela woreda, Agnuwa Zone, Gambela Regional State and one for  Gesha Woreda , Keffa Zone, Southwest Ethiopia Peoples’ Regional State

Duty Station:  Gambela and Gesha Woreda

Employment Type: Full-time

Contract Duration: Initial 12-month contract with the possibility of extension for up to four additional years, subject to satisfactory performance and project funding.

Salary: As per EWNRA’s salary scale.

Job Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the PFM and Livelihood Facilitator will provide technical and operational support for the implementation of Participatory Forest Management (PFM) and sustainable livelihood interventions. The position will strengthen community forest management institutions, promote inclusive participation, support forest conservation initiatives, and ensure effective implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities at the field level.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Provide technical support to Participatory Forest Management (PFM) institutions in implementing approved forest management plans and community bylaws.
• Facilitate community mobilization and participation while promoting awareness of community rights and ensuring the meaningful inclusion of women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
• Deliver technical assistance, coaching, and training on sustainable livelihood activities that contribute to forest conservation and climate resilience.
• Coordinate field-level forest monitoring and management activities in collaboration with government offices, community institutions, and project partners.
• Monitor project implementation and document activities, outputs, outcomes, lessons learned, and best practices.
• Prepare timely technical and progress reports in accordance with EWNRA and donor reporting requirements.
• Ensure that all project interventions comply with project objectives, donor requirements, environmental and social safeguard standards, and EWNRA policies.
• Foster effective collaboration and maintain strong working relationships with government counterparts, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator that are consistent with the objectives of the project.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc.) in Forestry, Agroforestry, Natural Resource Management, Watershed Management, Environmental Science, or another closely related discipline.

Professional Experience

• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Participatory Forest Management (PFM), community-based natural resource management, REDD+, forest conservation, or closely related programs.
• Previous experience working with national or international NGOs will be considered a strong advantage.

Required Competencies

The ideal candidate should possess:

• Strong technical knowledge of Participatory Forest Management and sustainable livelihood approaches.
• Proven experience in community mobilization, facilitation, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement.
• Excellent analytical, documentation, and report-writing skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant computer software.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Fluency in the local language is mandatory.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and teamwork skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to gender equality, social inclusion, and participatory development approaches.
• Ability to work independently in remote field locations and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• High standards of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
