JOB SUMMARY

The Nurse will contribute to the calling of Medical Teams by providing quality healthcare services to vulnerable refugee and host communities in the assigned region of Ethiopia. This role involves delivering essential nursing care, patient education, monitoring patient health, and ensuring the safe administration of treatments in compliance with local and international healthcare standards, and referral coordination. The nurse ensures safe, quality, and compassionate care in line with national protocols and organizational standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide direct nursing care to patients including triage, vital sign monitoring, wound dressing, and administration of prescribed treatments.
• Conduct outpatient consultations and manage common illnesses under clinical protocols and in collaboration with clinical officers or doctors.
• Support maternal and child health services, including antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC), family planning, and immunizations.
• Administer medications, vaccines, and injections safely, documenting doses and monitoring for adverse reactions.
• Educate patients and families on health topics such as hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention, and medication adherence.
• Assist in the stabilization and referral of patients requiring advanced care, coordinating with ambulance and referral hospitals.
• Maintain accurate patient records, ensure confidentiality, and complete daily data reports for HMIS and internal use.
• Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) practices are adhered to in all patient care activities.
• Participate in health outreach and community mobilization activities when required.
• Monitor and report any shortages or needs for medicines and supplies to the team lead or pharmacist.
• Uphold Medical Teams s values by providing compassionate, respectful, and culturally appropriate care.
• Follow organizational safeguarding, protection, and confidentiality policies at all times.
• Support safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding.
• Support in integrating accountability is into program implementation, monitoring and evaluations, recruitment, staff onboarding, training and performance management, partnership agreements, and highlighted in reporting.

EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS

• BSC Degree in Nursing
• Valid professional license from relevant regulatory authority.

EXPERIENCE 

• At least 1 year experience in providing in direct health care service

Preferred  

• Experience working with INGOs is an added advantage

Knowledge:   

• Knowledge of humanitarian standards, donors, systems and principles, e.g., Sphere, CHS, Red Cross Code of Conduct etc.
• A basic understanding of health systems.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-cultural teamwork.

• Knowledge of development & humanitarian issues and concepts
• Fluent spoken and written Amharic and English.
