Main purpose of the Position
Supervising the clinical activities and guaranteeing the quality of midwifery care in the department, according to MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards in order to provide a high-quality Mother and Child Health (MCH) care to the population.
Accountabilities
- Supervising, supporting and evaluating the team under his/her responsibility particularly midwives, midwife assistants and other related staff in her team such as cleaners.
- Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc) and coaching them in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures.
- Ensuring teamwork and a professional relationship between maternity and other departments.
- Supervising the clinical activities in all the maternity departments and activities such as ante-natal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up, post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, new-born vaccinations and liaising with the Medical Doctor about the patients who need special care times, visiting hours, etc.
- Ensuring that the staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in the working environment.
- Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained, cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols, reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
- Being responsible for the department-related pharmacy activities (stock and consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of the medical equipment.
- Being responsible for ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.
- In certain contexts, being responsible for ensuring that the maternity staff is able to identify, receive and provide care to the victims of the SGBV in collaboration with the Obs & Gyne MD and following the protocols.
MSF Section/Context-Specific Accountabilities
The Korem project has a mobile clinic component where SRH services are part of the package of care as Fixed clinic support and the Midwife supervisor is expected to work collaboratively with the team and required to support the following activities.
Providing direct Comprehensive Care through:
- Coordinating, developing, and evaluating daily care plans.
- Following up the provision of high-quality midwifery and safe standards of care.
- Supervising the correct execution of therapy prescriptions and the proper filling of the patients’ file.
- Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with MoH doctors/ clinical officers, midwives, nurses, and others.
- Carrying out daily follow up and ensuring adequate staffing for all SRH services.
- Supervising to ensure emergency (referral) boxes are checked and ready to use for every shift.
- Supporting the team to ensure that patient files filled correctly and completely and Watch over the respect for the medical secret, dignity/intimacy of patients, and privacy/confidentiality by responsible staff in in the department to ensure a maximum of patients’ comfort.
- Organizing to ensure that the staff on duty knows, implements, and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in the working environment.
Promoting Supportive Systems /Capacity building/:
- Facilitating SRH development and training programs for staff (Continuous learning and development) in liaison with line Managers
- Identify training needs, organize and coordinate training, coaching and supervision about SV based on the findings of learning needs assessments, knowledge, attitude and practices questionnaires and observation.
- Providing on-the-job training, mentoring, and supportive supervision to SRH midwives, particularly, topics that concern: maternal health and childcare such as pregnancy induced hypertension, PMTCT, SV/IPV care, ANC/PNC care etc.
- Ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.
Professional Leadership:
- Ensuring infection prevention and control (IPC) on board is adequate and provide sensitization if needed (to team or to rescued people)
- Participate in team meetings to discuss patient care and improve service delivery.
- Stay informed about best practices in maternal and reproductive health.
- Monitoring, reviewing complaints, medical incidents and reporting them as they occur
- Be flexible to work at any assigned location as determined by the recruitment team/ project.
