Organisation Overview

CCRDA, in partnership with Talk to Loop, is seeking a Moderator to support the implementation of the Talk to Loop platform in Ethiopia. The position will be hosted at the CCRDA office in Addis Ababa and will work closely with both CCRDA and the global Talk to Loop team.

The Moderator will review, categorize, and manage feedback submitted to the Loop platform, ensuring submissions are handled safely, confidentially, and in a timely manner. The role requires strong contextual knowledge of the Ethiopian humanitarian and development landscape, excellent language skills, and the ability to identify sensitive protection concerns.

The Moderator will collaborate closely with CCRDA and global Talk to Loop colleagues to ensure effective integration of the platform in Ethiopia and uphold high standards of accountability and community engagement.

Position Overview

In this role, you will review, tag, and manage feedback submitted to the Loop platform, ensuring it is safe, timely, and impactful. You will use your knowledge of the local aid landscape and language skills to uphold community standards, identify sensitive issues, and provide accurate translation and cultural context. As a Moderator, you will work closely with global colleagues and moderators in other countries to ensure Loop’s smooth integration in Ethiopia. This is a unique opportunity to amplify voices, promote accountability, and shape more transparent humanitarian and development responses. The role may involve weekend or holiday coverage on rotation, with growth opportunities in communications, monitoring & evaluation, and protection.

Expected Tasks:

• Review and tag all feedback submitted to the Loop platform, ensuring adherence to community guidelines.
• Determine the suitability of feedback for publication on the open platform or referral to the Loop Sensitive Feedback Lead for sensitive issues.
• Translate feedback into English and back when necessary, ensuring accurate and culturally relevant communication across languages.
• Provide support to the Local Sensitive Feedback Lead in managing sensitive cases.
• Notify and work with relevant organisations and stakeholders about posts pertinent to their work, fostering engagement, replies and collaboration.
• Represent the CCRDA–Talk to Loop initiative within Ethiopia, advocating for the platform and building relationships with stakeholders and communities.
• Support in the management of in-country communications and social media activities to promote Loop’s rollout and mainstreaming.
• Contribute to the improvement of Moderator Protocols based on experience and insights.
• Contribute to the development of strategies to engage marginalised populations safely and effectively, advocating for inclusive tech solutions and trust-building measures.
• Liaise with key actors, document and share learning internally and externally to enhance Loop’s impact and effectiveness.

Moderation Duties:

• Approve or reject feedback and replies based on Moderator Protocols and community guidelines.
• Add relevant tags to feedback and provide feedback for protocol enhancements.
• Facilitate the translation of feedback and responses as needed.
• Forward sensitive feedback to the Loop Sensitive Feedback Lead following established protocols.
• Manage feedback and profile pages for organisations.
• Attend coordination meetings and deliver presentations and training on Loop to stakeholders.
• Carry out other tasks as assigned by the superviser, contributing up to 10% of time to support broader organizational objectives and the overall development of the organization’s culture if time allows.

Necessary Skills and Experience

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Communications, International Relations, Journalism, Information Management, or a related field.
• Training in community engagement, accountability mechanisms, safeguarding, monitoring and evaluation, or protection-related areas is an added advantage.
• At least 2–3 years of relevant professional experience in community engagement, stakeholder communication, feedback mechanisms, moderation, monitoring and evaluation, protection, or related roles.
• Experience working with humanitarian or development organisations and familiarity with the Ethiopian NGO context is an advantage.
• Excellent written and spoken Amharic and Somali; Proficient in English. Spoken Oromo is an added advantage.
• Strong network and understanding of the local humanitarian and development context.
• Articulate communication skills, adaptable to diverse audiences.
• Proactive problem-solving and initiative-taking abilities.
• Proficiency in using digital tools such as smartphones, computers, and communication platforms.
• Experience in community engagement, communication with stakeholders, moderation, monitoring and evaluation, protection or related roles is preferred.
