The Project

Within the GIZ Program Special Initiative ” Capacity building training in tourism academy “, sequa implements the “The Tourism sector Support Scheme targeting growth orientated Tourism ” project for Arba Minch area in Ethiopia. With this, sequa aims to facilitate capacity building and enhancing the job quality and creating new jobs Ethiopian Tourism sector service providers by increasing their competitiveness and quality service so that their services will satisfy the demand on local and international markets.

Benefiting companies and professional individuals receive flexible and demand-oriented funding consulting, technical training, on areas of different section of the general topics of capacity building. A special focus will be on to initiate, inform, and facilitate community participation in the operation of two eco-friendly campsites in a remote area of Ethiopia. The objective of this assignment is to create two eco-friendly campsites in the community of Bonke and Zegit to attract visitors and create income generation mechanism and create jobs to the local community. The responsibility of the expert is to consult in Construction of the 2 eco-friendly campsites considering of two eco-friendly campsites in a remote area of Ethiopia.

Your Tasks / Responsibilities

Project Planning & Site Development

• Conduct site assessments to determine environmental, logistical, and technical feasibility.
• Develop master plans for the eco-campsites, ensuring low-impact design aligned with local ecosystems and topography.
• Coordinate project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation for efficient construction in remote areas

Design and Construction Over sight

• Lead the design and construction of off-grid, eco-friendly campsites using locally sourced and sustainable materials, low-impact building techniques
• Climate-resilient and energy-efficient designs
• Supervise on-site construction teams, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards.

Sustainable Infrastructure Implementation

• Design and install renewable energy systems (e.g., solar panels, solar water heaters).
• Integrate water conservation systems such as rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling.
• Install eco-sanitation solutions like composting toilets and responsible waste management systems.

Environmental Social Responsibility and Quality Assurance & Sustainability Monitoring

• Develop and apply mitigation strategies to protect biodiversity and minimize disruption to natural habitats
• Implement monitoring systems to track the environmental footprint, energy usage, and community impact.
• Prepare reports for stakeholders on project performance, compliance, and sustainability indicators.

Your Qualification / Skills

• Master’s or bachelor’s degree in architecture / civil engineering

Your Working Experience

• Minimum of 5–10 years of experience
• Designing and constructing off-grid, eco-friendly campsites, lodges, or tourism facilities.
• Working in remote or environmentally sensitive regions, preferably in Ethiopia or East Africa.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in infrastructure, environmental management, and community engagement.
• Commitment to environmental sustainability, ethical labour practices, and community inclusion
• Designing and implementing renewable energy systems.
