Background of Elibat Charitable Organization
Elibat Charitable Organization is a board-led civil society organization founded in 2013 E.C. by young women in Ethiopia. Elibat’s main goal is to make the Ethiopian justice system more accessible, especially for those who face barriers due to financial or social reasons. Elibat provides legal aid to people who cannot afford legal counseling, offers psychological support to victims of violence, and develops capacity-building programs for those in need. Elibat is committed to defending democracy and human rights, particularly in areas where gender-based violence is widespread and legal protection is lacking.
Our organization also works to raise awareness and educate citizens about their rights, believing that informed citizens are the best defense against injustice.Currently Elibat is implementing a project titled ‘Safe Spaces,Strong Voices: Empowering Women’ with financial support from CSIF through Lawyers for Human Right (LHR). The project aims to improve the human rights situation of women incarcerated in the main correctional facilities in Addis Ababa.
Purpose of the Training
The main purpose of this training is to provide police officers in Addis Ababa with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to respect, protect, and fulfill human rights, especially the rights of women detainees. The training will help officers understand their legal and ethical responsibilities, improve their interactions with women detainees, and reduce incidents of mistreatment or abuse.

After this training it is expected that police officers will demonstrate improved knowledge and attitudes about human rights and detainee protection, reduction in complaints and incidents of detainee mistreatment, and improved trust and cooperation between police and the community.
