Background
The Center for the Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) is a board-led, not-for-profit organization registered in Ethiopia under the Civil Societies Proclamation No. 1113/2019 with registry number 4307. CARD envisions an Ethiopia where democratic culture flourishes on the basis of human rights values. Its mission is to empower citizens and civic groups to promote and defend human rights and build democratic governance.
As part of the project aimed at strengthening youth-led, human rights-based dialogue and peace-building in the Oromia, Amhara, and Tigray regions, regional workshops will be held to introduce the project framework and objectives. These workshops will also provide a platform for participants to engage in discussions on human rights-based approaches (HRBA) for peace-building, and dialogue facilitation.
To this end, CARD is seeking three qualified consultants to facilitate the workshops across the three regions who can demonstrate strong sensitivity and responsiveness to the local languages, cultural dynamics, and societal contexts.
Objective of the Assignment
To facilitate regional workshops on human rights-based dialogue and peace-building, and to produce a comprehensive write-up/report of the process and outcomes.
Scope of Work / Tasks
The Consultant will be responsible for the following:
Preparation (Pre-Workshop)
- Review project framework and relevant materials.
- Develop workshop agenda, methodology, and facilitation guide.
- Prepare materials needed to facilitate the workshop tailored to regional contexts.
Facilitation (During Workshop)
- Facilitate a 1-day workshop in each region (Oromia, Amhara, Tigray). .
- Cover the following core areas: Introduction to the project framework; an in-depth discussion on the Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA), fundamentals of peace building principles, dialogue facilitation and conflict sensitivity and the use of participatory approaches and practical exercises.
Documentation and Reporting (Post-Workshop)
- Compile workshop proceedings, including key discussions, outcomes, and recommendations.
- Produce a consolidated report summarizing workshop processes, lessons learned, and next steps.
Deliverables
- Workshop agenda and facilitation guide (before the workshops).
- Effective facilitation of 3 regional workshops.
- Final consolidated workshop report with analysis, outcomes, and recommendations.
Timeline
The assessment is expected to be completed within 20 working days.
About You
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree in human rights, peace and conflict studies, law, political science, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in human rights-based approaches, peace-building, and conflict transformation.
- Demonstrated expertise in workshop facilitation and participatory training methods.
- Strong analytical and report writing skills.
- Familiarity with Ethiopia’s socio-political and conflict context, particularly Oromia, Amhara, and Tigray regions.
- Fluency in Amharic, Afaan Oromo and Tigrigna strongly preferred.
Management and Logistics
- The consultant will work closely with CARD’s Project Team.
- Travel and logistical arrangements for regional workshops will be covered by CARD.
- The consultant will report directly to the Project Manager.
