Job Description
BACKGROUND:
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. We currently manage 23 national parks and protected areas in 13 countries covering over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.
Gambella National Park was established as a protected area in 1973 and is 4,575 km² in size. It forms the northern anchor of a much larger contiguous system, with a network of protected areas in southern Ethiopia and neighboring South Sudan. The park hosts several wildlife species, including an important population of Nile Lechwe, Ethiopia’s largest population of elephants, healthy lion populations, one of the most endangered giraffe populations in the world, and a shoebill population. Gambella also forms part of the white-eared kob migration between South Sudan and Ethiopia—the largest land mammal migration on earth, comprising around 6 million animals.
JOB OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the logistics manager, the storekeeper works in collaboration with the garage, transport, and housing teams. The storekeeper works under the operation department. His/her role is to manage and optimize the company’s inventory. He/she ensures daily management in order to avoid stock shortages as much as possible. He/she coordinates the storage according to the arrival and departure of products. He/she organizes the stock, follows the orders of the Spare parts, tools and fuel ordered, and makes sure that the stocks correspond to their true values.
MAIN ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Stock control and management
- Checking goods and ensuring all goods delivered are in good condition and reporting abnormalities where they exist;
- Ensure a satisfactory rate of coverage of requests from maintenance departments (or other departments);
- Regularly update stock management tools (stock sheet per item, receipt slips, issue slips);
- Coordinate the storage of products, taking into account both the arrival and the deliveries to be made;
- Update inflow software for inventory management;
- Ensure proper storage/labeling of goods in designated locations;
- Manage the delivery of released items from the store to the assigned location(s);
- Prepare storage space for safekeeping;
- Manage the inventory of all items in the store, participate in the inventory counts and provide periodic reports to the Logistics Manager;
- Maintain an information system for stocks and provide specific stock-related information when required;
- Ensure that the store is in clean condition at all times;
- Supervise warehouse helpers or casual labor when hired;
- Perform any other cognate duties as may be assigned by the line manager.
Reporting
- Prepare and submit accurate inventory reports weekly/monthly.
- Implementation of policies and procedures
- Full compliance of operations with African Parks’ operations policies, procedures, and processes.
Compliance
- Adhere to the Health and Safety, Fire and Environmental policies of African Parks;
- Cooperate with management in its achievement of its health and safety legislative obligations;
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of anyone else who may be affected by your acts or omissions at the workplace;
- Adhere to all departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
- Ensure Operations practices are in accordance with company and customer policies, standards and regulations;
Required Qualifications and Work Experience
- Education: BA Degree in Logistics & Supply Management (LSM), Management, or Accounting.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in warehouse/storekeeping. Proven experience in Inventory Management;
- Exceptional communication skills delivered both verbally and in writing;
- Skills in managing, organizing, planning and implementing assigned tasks under pressure of frequent and tight schedules;
- Computer literacy and proven knowledge of inventory software
- Innovative and organized
