Three Roots International (TRI) is registered as a foreign non-government organization by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Agency for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO), under the registration no. 4931. Currently, TRI carries out a development program in Gandagorba Kebele found in Bishoftu, Oromia region. The mission of TRI is to cultivate community development and economic capacity by empowering families through education, health, and income generating activities. Job Summary:

The Social Worker is responsible for executing and supporting all project activities in the implementation sites, aligned with TRI’s holistic development framework. This includes engaging in community mobilization, implementing the Self Help Group (SHG) approach, supporting youth through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and promoting peace-building, gender inclusion, and digital literacy. The Social Worker is also expected to play a key role in safeguarding, advocating for vulnerable and marginalized groups, and ensuring community ownership and sustainability.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

The Social Worker will:

  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing action plans for each program activity;
  • Conduct needs assessments of target groups including schools, families, youth, and children;
  • Participate in the identification and selection of beneficiaries, including SHG members and youth for TVET programs;
  • Facilitate and strengthen Self Help Groups (SHGs), ensuring their capacity in savings, income generation, and community support;
  • Monitor and support youth enrolled in technical and vocational training programs, including follow-up on job placement or entrepreneurship;
  • Promote inclusive and equitable participation in all programs, with attention to gender, disability, and other vulnerable identities;
  • Facilitate community-based peacebuilding discussions and local conflict resolution initiatives;
  • Promote digital literacy training among SHG members, youth, and other target groups to enhance economic and social inclusion;
  • Ensure safeguarding of all beneficiaries by upholding organizational child and vulnerable adult protection policies;
  • Identify and advocate for the needs of vulnerable populations including women, children, persons with disabilities, and elderly;
  • Build relationships with local institutions and stakeholders to link beneficiaries with services, support, and policy advocacy;
  • Conduct regular field visits and provide continuous coaching and mentoring to project participants;
  • Support the organization and delivery of community training, exposure visits, and workshops;
  • Collect, organize, and manage data related to beneficiaries and project progress;
  • Prepare and submit field reports, success stories, lessons learned, and case studies to the Project Manager;
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes, including data collection, analysis, and use for learning;
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly progress and annual reports;
  • Participate in zonal, woreda, and community-level performance review and planning meetings;
  • Assess risks in project implementation and suggest mitigation strategies;
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of staff under their supervision;
  • Ensure transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in all interactions with the community;
  • Perform other duties as required.

About You

Required Qualification, Experience & Skills:

  • Have at least a University Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Development Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Gender Studies, or other relevant fields;
  • Have at least 5 years of relevant experience in community development, livelihoods, or child/youth programs;
  • Demonstrate experience working with Self Help Groups, TVET, or similar initiatives;
  • Have practical understanding of gender inclusion, peacebuilding, and safeguarding principles;
  • Be familiar with digital literacy promotion and its role in development;
  • Be highly proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint);
  • Be fluent in English, Afan Oromo and Amharic;
  • Have excellent facilitation, community engagement, and communication skills;
  • Demonstrate strong time management, coordination, and problem-solving abilities;
  • Be a team player with a commitment to equity, participation, and sustainable development.
