Job Description

1. Position Summary

The Social Worker is responsible for the delivery of case management, psychosocial support, beneficiary counselling, and community linkage services to children and youth with disabilities (CYWDs) and their families within the project’s implementation area. The Social Worker plays a central role in ensuring that Right- Holders receive holistic, rights-based support that addresses their social, emotional, and practical needs in line with the BEN Ethiopia programme approach.

This is a full-time, project-dedicated role at 100% Level of Effort. The Social Worker works under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator.

2. Key Duties and Responsibilities

2.1 Case Management

  • Identify, assess, and register children and youth with disabilities and their caregivers as project Right- Holders using CE’s standardized tools.
  • Develop and implement individual support plans for each beneficiary, addressing their social, psychosocial, educational, livelihood, and health-related needs.
  • Conduct regular follow-up visits to beneficiary households to monitor progress, provide support, and update case records.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date case files for all Right- Holders in accordance with CE’s data protection guidelines and Annex 3 of the Sub-Grant Agreement.
  • Ensure timely closure of cases and document outcomes achieved.

2.2 Psychosocial Support

  • Provide individual and group psychosocial support sessions to CYWDs and their caregivers, addressing issues such as stigma, isolation, trauma, and self-esteem.
  • Facilitate peer support groups and caregiver support groups as part of the project’s social inclusion activities.
  • Identify Right- Holders with acute psychosocial needs and refer them to appropriate specialized services in a timely manner.
  • Promote positive disability attitudes and social inclusion within families and communities through awareness and sensitization activities.

2.3 Community Linkages and Referrals

  • Establish and maintain strong referral pathways to health facilities, rehabilitation centers, schools, vocational training centers, legal services, and social protection schemes.
  • Accompany or support Right- Holders in accessing referred services as needed.
  • Liaise with local government social affairs offices, community leaders, women and children’s affairs offices, and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate access to services.
  • Document all referrals made and follow up on their outcomes.

2.4 Data Collection and Reporting

  • Collect disaggregated monitoring data (by gender, age, and disability type) on all Right- Holders using CE’s standardized data collection tools.
  • Submit monthly activity updates and contribute to quarterly narrative reports prepared by the Project Coordinator.
  • Document and share compelling beneficiary stories and case studies with the Project Coordinator for inclusion in CE’s reports, ensuring informed consent is obtained.
  • Participate in joint monitoring visits, reflection workshops, and learning events organized by CE.

2.5 Safeguarding

  • Adhere strictly to CE’s Child Safeguarding Policy, PSEA Policy, and Code of Conduct in all interactions with Right- Holders.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns or incidents to the Safeguarding Focal Person and Project Coordinator immediately.
  • Ensure informed consent is obtained from parents or caretakers before collecting or using personal information or photographs of Right- Holders.

3. Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Disability Studies, or a closely related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in social work, case management, or community-based support services.
  • Experience working with children, persons with disabilities, or other vulnerable groups is required.
  • Experience in psychosocial support delivery is a strong advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an empathetic and non-judgmental approach.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Local language; working knowledge of English.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive personal information with discretion.
  • Knowledge of local community structures, referral systems, and social protection mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Word, Excel).
  • Committed to disability inclusion, child rights, and gender equality.

4. Working Conditions

  • Based at the Partner Organization’s office with frequent field visits to beneficiary households, community centers, and referral service providers.

5. Employment Terms

  • The position is for the project period March 1 – December 31, 2026, and is subject to availability of funds.
