Organizational Background
HUNDEE – Oromo Grassroots Development Initiative is a local non-partisan, not-for profit and secular charity organization established in April 1995. HUNDEE broadly envisions seeing a just world where women, men, boys and girls live in dignity and prosperity. To this end, it has been promoting various projects being developed in the areas of development and community education interventions.
It has secured funding support from ISHIDO for the implementation of a project that seeks to deliver family-focused HIV prevention, testing, care services and interventions for vulnerable children in Adaba, Adola, Bule-Hora, Negele Arsi, Odo-Shakiso, Shakiso, Shashemene Yabello, Becho, Burayu and Woliso, Kofele, Dire(Mega) towns of Oromia National Regional State. The Main purpose of this project is to strengthen local HIV epidemic control so that 95% of individuals living with HIV know their status, 95% of persons living with HIV initiate antiretroviral therapy and 95% of clients on antiretroviral therapy achieve their viral load suppression. Currently, our organization seeks to hire competent and qualified candidates who fulfill the following criteria of the position.
Position: Social Service Worker.
Job Summary
Under the direction and close supervision of Care and Support Officer or OVC Service specalitie , the social service worker is primarily responsible to:
- Social Service Workers (SSWs) will coordinate, oversee, and support case management activities within their assigned Kebele working closely with community leaders & CRPs.
- SSWs will prioritize and select the most vulnerable households & CLHIV, mobilize resources and provide case management services for serious cases particularly clients with adherence problems.
- SSWs will conduct households enrolling families, assessing needs, and developing care plans.
- SSWs will provide ongoing conduct individual and group follow-up meetings with families. With caseloads 500 children each,
- Additionally, SSWs will support the PMCT & support group
- SSWs will be engaged in case management assessment and service report data collection using smartphones.
Specific Responsibility
- Identify, prioritize and enroll project beneficiaries, and managing case files as per set standard
- Create collaboration and linkage with locally available health facilities, community leaders, and engagement facilitators, to identify priority children/caregivers for support
- Conduct and assist with household assessments including HIV risk, economic vulnerability, needs/strengths, child development, mental health, and follow-ups.
- Developing household care plans to improve their OVC and Caregiver circumstances.
- SSWs will take responsibility of case management of CALHIV particularly children with high viral load and poor adherence.
- Conduct Service mapping and develop service directory in collaboration with community Care Coalition (CCC) for service diversification.
- Support Community Care Coalitions in documentation, resource mobilization, planning, timely reporting, coordination, and case file management
- Facilitate access to services for families through referrals and direct support to ensure they achieve healthy, stable, safe and schooled benchmarks.
- Monitor and report on target children and families’ progress with appropriate monitoring and reporting tool.
- Conduct assessments to determine readiness for graduation and facilitate case closures in accordance with standard procedures
- Facilitate group case management activities including psychosocial support, mental health, GBV/child protection, and HIV/ART literacy discussion sessions.
- Identify and support high viral load children living with HIV, facilitate referrals monitor progress through time.
- Support and follow up need and strength assessment, care plan development, HIV risk assessment, HHEVA, graduation readiness assessment and case closures.
- Follow up on households receiving economic strengthening support
- Assess ART adherence, viral load suppression, and education performance barriers for children and implement appropriate interventions to address barriers.
- Conduct and share satisfaction surveys with children/caregivers receiving services
- Responsible for daily service data entry using smartphones.
Required Education and Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in public health or health officer, Nursing or health-related fields and/or Diploma in Nursing from recognized universities or colleges.
Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years direct and proven work experience for degree holders, of which 1 year in Health and HIV related activities and 4 years for Diploma holders with similar roles (preferably in NGO), Experience in the area of HIV Testing & Counseling Services, and HIV care and support activities at community level is preferable.
Skill and Personal Qualities Required
- Professional registration and renewed license from concerned health office;
- COC Certificate is required for Diploma holders (level IV)
- Excellent interpersonal communication and report writing skills
- Technical competence and ability to work in harmony with co-worker.
- Having knowledge & experience in HTS, HIV Self-test and in providing HIV testing training on new national algorism
- Proven knowledge of working with Microsoft packages and commcare;
Language Ability
- Proficiency in Afaan Oromo, Amharic and English languages is mandatory.

Required Skills
