Senior Safety and Security Officer | Gambella

Job Description

Do you have BA/MA Degree in Political science and International Relations or political science / Peace and Security studies/ Peace building and Conflict Resolution, Police Science/Military Science, Law from recognized College/University, or related qualification which can added value to the post?

Do you have at least five years of practical experience in security and safety risk management in hostile operating environments?

The Role:

Under the direct supervision of Gambella Refugee Response Program Manager with technical supervision by the Country Safety and Security Coordinator (CSC(, the Senior Safety and Security officer (SSSO) is responsible for facilitating the safety and security of Oxfam GB personnel and assets and will be responsible for monitoring, planning, assessing, and keeping up to date security situation of the operation areas (Gambella Region). The SSSO is expected to have an excellent understanding of local context and ability to analyze security dynamics.

An ideal candidate for the role will also be / have:

  • Proven expertise in Ethiopia safety and security context along with good understanding of Gambella Region security/safety environment and dynamics.
  • Good influencing, communication, interpersonal, and negotiating skills with internal and external audiences including in complex and stressful environments.
  • Established experience of training, including field-based training.
  • Ability to work under pressure and not lose sight of strategic priorities.
  • Capacity to be on standby 24/7 and ready to travel at short notice.
  • Fluency/Good knowledge of English in English (written, spoken, comprehension) and Amharic languages.
  • Competent report writing skills
