Introduction

Within the framework of CIFA’s Second Life Project in Ethiopia, and under the supervision of the Admin and HR Department, CIFA is seeking to recruit one Security Guard (Leave Cover) based in Addis Ababa. This temporary position is intended to ensure continuity of security services during staff leave periods.

Organization

CIFA is an international NGO with over 40 years of commitment in protecting the most vulnerable children and youth. Working in Ethiopia for over 20 years, CIFA supports the access to primary and secondary education, especially for girls; it fights against the worst forms of discrimination and supports women’s economic empowerment. With this approach, CIFA currently works in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa City Administration, Amhara (South Wollo), Hareri and Oromia Region.

Project

The Second Life Project aims to strengthen solid waste management systems, promote circular economy approaches, and enhance socio-economic inclusion through coordinated technical, institutional, and community-based actions in Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa. The project is implemented in close coordination with the Addis Ababa City Administration and the Dire Dawa City Administration, local authorities, and implementing partners.

Key Tasks

The Security Guard (Leave Cover) is responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of CIFA’s office premises, staff, and assets during the assigned leave cover period. Working under the direct supervision and guidance of the Admin and HR Department, the Security Guard maintains continuous security presence, enforces organizational protocols, and supports a safe and orderly environment for smooth project implementation..

  • Protects the CIFA Office in Addis Ababa, property and staff all the time by exchanging shift by shift with the other guards.
  • Protects CIFA property and staff by performing routine investigations or security assessments to ensure the safety of all staff, including field staff, to enter or return to a location where actual or suspected problems exist.
  • Conducts regular checks for incoming traffic and ensures that all staff member and guests are kept fully informed on matters affecting their security.
  • Conducts day and night foot patrols, which means conducting routine security surveys of office and residential areas and premises.
  • Investigates and prepares reports on minor cases of theft, illegal entry, assault, or other incidents when the extent of the infraction is readily determinable.
  • Assists in identifying and recording CIFA assets and the number of staff and dependents to be protected.
  • Opens and closes the compound doors for staff and project vehicles.
  • Assists with loading and unloading of project materials.
  • Ensures an orderly, conducive, and clean environment in the compound.
  • Informs management of any security irregularities and reports to the supervisor.
  • Receives visitors/guests and checks their ID whenever necessary at the entrance informing the supervisor/staff before allowing guests into the office.
  • Remains available on duty at all times and must not leave the office without handing over the key and other resources to another guard.
  • Assists other staff in various tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Performs any other task not listed but necessary for project implementation as communicated through the supervisor.
  • Other financial obligations in compliance with national laws.
  • Keeps vehicle keys safe and hands them over only to authorized staff.

Remuneration

The employee’s Gross Salary will be € 131.02 [One Hundred Thirty One Euro and Two Cents Only] based on the salary scale of the Organization (Grade 1 -Step 1) and will be paid at the end of each month to the employee’s bank account.

The gross salary includes the monthly transport allowance. In addition, the employer will contribute 11% to the pension fund as required by Ethiopian labour law, and provide medical and life insurance in accordance with CIFA’s policy.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

  • Completion of Grade 10 or above. Formal training in security, safety, or related fields is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a security guard, preferably with NGOs, international organizations, or reputable companies.
  • Demonstrated ability to safeguard office premises, staff, and property.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of basic security procedures, access control, and emergency response.
  • Ability to conduct routine patrols, monitor compound entry/exit, and manage office and vehicle keys responsibly.
  • Basic incident reporting and recordkeeping skills.
  • Personal Competencies:
  • Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; respectful interaction with staff and visitors.
  • High level of alertness, discipline, and reliability in shift work.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
  • Commitment to teamwork and willingness to assist other staff when required.

Languages:

  • Basic written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Amharic.
