Duties and Responsibilities The intern will report to the Technology, Innovation, Connectivity, and Infrastructure Division (TICID) and the supervision of the Chief of the Technologies, Innovation, and Digital Transformation Section and the Coordinator of the Digital Centre of Excellence on Digital ID, Trade, and Economy. The Technologies, Innovation, and Digital Transformation work of the Economic Commission for Africa is led by the Technologies, Innovation, and Digital Transformation Section and encompasses a) policy research and analysis; b) technical support to member states and their institutions; and c) consensus building and advocacy.
• Research and Analysis: Assist in the collection and analysis of data related to the digital economy and e-governance. Conduct research on digital trends and best practices and propose innovative solutions to enhance digital engagements with member states, regional organizations (AUC, UN agencies, WB, AfDB, Afreximbank, etc.), the private sector, and NGOs with the objective of accelerating digital transformation efforts across Africa. Support the preparation of reports on the digital economy and e-governance, including e-commerce, digital trade, fintech, emerging technologies, digital divides, infrastructure development, and implementation of digital strategies, highlighting achievements, challenges, and opportunities for growth.
• Technical Support: Support the team in the design and implementation of programs under the Digital Center of Excellence, including the portfolio on Digital ID & Interoperability, capacity building, and upskilling of students and teachers as part of the joint Google program and the Connected African Girls coding camp initiative.
• Content Creation and Management: Assist with the creation of digital content, including infographics and social media posts that promote the ECA’s initiatives and results. Update and maintain the ECA’s website content and websites under ECA’s projects in collaboration with various departments to ensure accuracy and timeliness and develop recommendations to improve usability.
