Public Relations and Communication Manager

Job Description

Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is a national Non- Governmental Organization registered in accordance with the proclamation for Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No 1113/2019 with a certificate No 0022. MCMDO is currently implementing emergency response and development projects in all regions and City Administrations in Ethiopia.

To meet its objectives MCMDO calls for competent professionals to apply for the following vacant position.

Position: Public Relations (PR) and Communication Manager

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Head Office (Onsite) with field missions to project implementation areas as required

Salary: Based on organization’s salary scale

Job Summary:

The PR and Communication Manager at MCMDO provides strategic leadership in shaping the organization’s public image, strengthening donor confidence, and amplifying the impact of its emergency response and development programs across Ethiopia.

Core Duties:

Website Management

  • Write and publish timely project results, donor updates, and organizational news.
  • Oversee design, content updates, and functionality of the NGO’s website.

Publications & Testimonials

  • Develop a content plan for each project to ensure testimonials are systematically gathered, verified, and integrated into reports, publications, and advocacy materials.
  • Coordinate with program teams to embed testimonial collection into project workflows, ensuring stories are authentic, timely, and aligned with donor visibility requirements.
  • Lead the design and production of brochures, advocacy materials, and branded promotional items (e.g., business cards, notebooks, pens, posters, banners, and other visibility materials) to enhance organizational image

Newsletters

  • Develop and distribute regular newsletters to donors, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure content reflects program achievements and upcoming initiatives.

Social Media Management

  • Manage organizational accounts across major platforms, ensuring consistent and professional presence.
  • Develop and maintain a content calendar to schedule posts regularly and align with project milestones, donor visibility requirements, and advocacy campaigns.
  • Create engaging posts that amplify visibility, mobilize support, and highlight program impact.
  • Monitor analytics, track engagement, and adapt strategies to maximize reach while ensuring all content adheres to branding and ethical standards
  • Respond promptly and professionally to comments, messages, and inquiries to strengthen trust.

Branding Consistency

  • Ensure all communication materials comply with MCMDO’s brand identity and donor visibility requirements.
  • Train staff on branding and messaging standards.

Event Management

  • Plan and execute webinars, workshops, and public awareness campaigns.
  • Coordinate logistics, promotion, and follow-up communication.

Visibility Focal Point

  • Act as the lead for donor visibility requirements across projects.
  • Liaise with program teams and donor communication officers.

About You Education:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Development Studies or other related Social Science field

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of direct experience in public relations, communications, or media management within NGOs, development agencies, social enterprises or similar organizations for Bachelor’s degree holders, and a minimum of 5 years of direct experience for Master’s degree holders.
  • Proven track record in managing organizational visibility, donor/partner communication, and digital platforms.

Skills:

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in website management, including direct content updates without reliance on IT staff
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools such as Mailchimp (for newsletters) and social media management platforms.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) for professional documentation, reporting, and collaboration.
  • Excellent command of English (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated skills in photography and videography, with the ability to produce donor- ready visual content; being certified is an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of branding and donor visibility requirements, ensuring compliance across all communication materials.
  • Ability to craft compelling stories, testimonials, and advocacy materials that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Proven skills in event planning and execution skills for webinars, workshops, and campaigns.
