Net Salary: 11,280 (for 24 hour weekly weekend shift i.e 1 day per week on Sunday)

Background

Nutrition 4 Education and Development (N4ED) is a grassroots Ethiopian Civil Society Organization committed to building a productive generation by investing in children’s nutrition, early childhood development, and the empowerment of women. As part of our broader commitment to supporting women and girls, N4ED is expanding its efforts to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) by contributing to prevention and response initiatives in Ethiopia.

As part of its expanded efforts to prevent and respond to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), N4ED is establishing a women’s shelter in Addis Ababa to provide protection and holistic support for GBV survivors. The shelter offers a confidential, survivor-centered, and healing environment for women and girls in crisis, integrating medical, psychosocial, and protection services. To ensure the health and wellbeing of residents around the clock, N4ED seeks to recruit two qualified Nurses who will deliver compassionate medical care, health education, and ongoing support in day and night shifts.

Purpose of the Role

The Nurses will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care, first aid, health assessments, and health education to shelter residents. Working under the supervision of the Shelter Coordinator, they will ensure that all medical services are provided in a safe, ethical, and survivor-centered manner, contributing to the overall healing and recovery of survivors.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Care and Health Assessment

• Conduct comprehensive health assessments for survivors and their children.
  • Monitor and manage ongoing health conditions, treatments, and medications
• Administer first aid and coordinate referrals to external healthcare facilities as needed.
  • Provide prenatal care for pregnant survivors, including monitoring health, providing counseling, and identifying risk factors.
    • Provide postnatal care, including support for recovery, breastfeeding guidance, and monitoring the health of both mother and newborn.
    • Provide post abortion care as needed ( follow up of medications, bleeding , vital signs and health center appointments)
    • Reporting of activities and cases

Case Management and Follow-up

• Support individual survivor case management in collaboration with case worker and the shelter coordinator.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on medical interventions, pregnancy care, and post-pregnancy/ abortion recovery.
    • Maintain confidential health records and adhere to professional medical protocols.

Health Education and Awareness

• Deliver age-appropriate health training and awareness sessions on topics such as:
• Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)
  • HIV/AIDS prevention and family planning
  • Pregnancy care, maternal health, postnatal care and breast feeding
  • Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs), including FGM
  • Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and nutrition
  • Parenting skills and early childhood development.
  • Hygiene etc…
• Promote healthy behaviors, hygiene practices, and safe motherhood within the shelter.

Distribution of Supplies

• Distribute dignity kits, hygiene products, and childcare supplies to survivors according to their needs.
• Ensure proper documentation and accountability for all distributed items.

Participation in Shelter Operations

• Actively participate in weekly Case Review Committee (CRC) meetings and contribute to multidisciplinary care planning as needed.
• Support shelter staff in implementing safe, survivor-centered, and trauma-informed care practices.

Other Duties

• Perform additional responsibilities related to the provision of holistic medical and health support as directed by the supervisor.
• Ensure 24-hour coverage by coordinating handovers between shifts.

Duration and Location

This is a part time position based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Public Health from a recognized institution.
• Valid and renewed professional license from relevant authority.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in GBV or women’s health settings.
• Strong understanding of GBV guiding principles and survivor-centered approaches.
• First aid or ATLS training certificate is preferred.
• Experience in health education, counseling, or awareness-raising activities is a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work compassionately and professionally in sensitive environments.
