Job Description

Duty and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical and expertise assistance in planning VMD activities of the Zonal Branch;
  • Provides technical and expertise backup to Woreda branches on VMD management, the dissemination of the Geneva Conventions, Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and International Humanitarian law and expansion of volunteerism;
  • Monitors and evaluates the activities of raising and governing membership and voluntarism for the causes of the Red Cross/ Red Crescents Movement, keeping a well-organized and updated database of members and volunteers of the Zonal Branch, training, organizing and deploying volunteers for rescue work, social welfare and other mandated fields of activity of the Society delegated to Zonal Branch;
  • Identifies materials required to effectively carry out dissemination activities of the Zonal Branch, facilitates and follows up the adequate and timely supply of the same;
  • Facilitates, follows up and performs in person the dissemination activities of the Zonal Branch on value, principles of the Red Cross Movement, the Geneva Conventions, International Humanitarian Law and other matters of importance in furthering the purposes and causes of the Movement in general and of the Society in particular to target audiences;
  • Initiates membership management systems to raise quality of membership for improved productivity and self-sustenance;
  • Mobilizes youth associations, members and volunteers for providing their voluntary service when and where this service is required.
  • Facilitates the overall activities recruiting, developing, retaining and mobilizing volunteer force of the Zonal Branch to respond to humanitarian needs of vulnerable communities;
  • Keeps sufficiently detailed, complete and consolidated record of members and volunteers in the Zonal Branch, follows up their statuses of members and volunteers and constantly updates the database thereof;
  • Initiates policy ideas on dissemination, volunteers and membership matters based on practical experience;
  • Assesses and identifies the resource and skill gaps of branches in carrying out VMD activities effectively and efficiently and recommends courses of action;
  • Regularly evaluates the VMD activities of branches;
  • Facilitates, follows up and personally participates in organizing and administering necessary VMD trainings of trainers of the Zonal Branch;
  • Cascades capacity building trainings as far down to grass levels of the Society’s humanitarian services, and ensures that the intended impacts are realized through proper monitoring, evaluation and reporting;
  • Encourages woreda branches to organize dissemination sessions to different target groups and provides the necessary supports;
  • Follows up and evaluates the effectiveness of the existing VMD management activities of the Zonal Branch and recommends courses of action based on results;
  • Prepares reports on dissemination, members and volunteers matters of the Zonal Branch regularly and on demand and hands over to superior for review, finalization and submission;
  • Organizes appropriate public events to disseminate the ideals and principles of RC/Crescent movement at Zonal level;
  • Mobilizes members and volunteers of the Zonal Branch in response to planned and unplanned calls of humanitarian action;
  • Performs other VMD related duties and responsibilities of the Zonal Branch as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Gross Salary16,814.00 and no other additional benefit package

About You

Job Specifications: –

  • Second/First degree in Pedagogical Science/Social Work/ Sociology/ Social Anthropology/ Social Psychology/ Applied Psychology/ Public Administration/ Business Administration/ Regional and Local Development Studies/ development studies/ Management / Political Science & International Relations
  • 2/3 years’ relevant work experience.

IV. Other skills and Competency: –

  • Training in communications, Advocacy, community mobilizations, Training Trainers (TOT), and Volunteer Management is Advantage.
  • High level of communications, Relationship Management skills, working with community and volunteers have also an asset.
