Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Doctor/Team Lead will assist in the implementation, management and supervision of the Samaritans Purse (SP) MMNU, providing oversite to the MMNU delivering life-saving essential primary health care for patients in the Samaritans Purse program area. The Medical Doctor/Team Lead will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of care as they help treat patients. The workload is intensive and requires a team of dedicated health professionals to meet the ever- increasing demand for specialized medical care. At times the position holder may be called upon to fulfill duties not directly involved with this job description.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide high quality primary healthcare to pediatric and adult patients, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow up for communicable and noncommunicable diseases in line with Ethiopian, SP, and international guidelines.
Conduct comprehensive patient consultations, request and interpret laboratory tests, prescribe medications appropriately, and ensure patients understand correct dosage and use.
Identify patients requiring secondary or tertiary care and refer them according to clinic protocols.
Recognize medical emergencies, provide initial stabilization, and arrange timely referral.
Perform wound care and minor clinical procedures using strict sterile techniques.
Deliver antenatal, postnatal, and neonatal care in accordance with national and international standards.
Screen and refer children and women for required immunizations.
Maintain strict hygiene standards and adhere to universal infection prevention and control practices at all times.
Ensure patient confidentiality is upheld in all MMNU activities.
Oversee daily MMNU operations within the assigned region, ensuring services meet SP standards, Ethiopian Government protocols, and universal infection control requirements.
Conduct daily field visits to MMNU sites to supervise activities, support clinical teams, and ensure adherence to clinic guidelines.
Apply medical knowledge to ensure consultations, prescribing, and treatments are delivered according to SP and government protocols.
Support clinical leadership in enforcing compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
Provide weekly training, mentoring, and dissemination of updated medical practices and protocols to MMU clinical staff.
Ensure culturally sensitive care and communication across all MMU services.
Monitor the proper functioning of MMUs, including equipment, supplies, pharmaceuticals, and overall service quality.
Assist the Program Lead in implementing, managing, and supervising SPs project in the intervention area, in alignment with SPs Health and Nutrition strategy and humanitarian standards.
Support rapid health and needs assessments, including joint assessments with the security team in new locations for potential response.
Assist in monitoring and evaluating the health program through clinic supervision, data verification, beneficiary feedback, and quality assurance activities.
Represent SP at Zonal/Woreda level health and nutrition technical meetings.
Supervise clinical and registration data collection in MMUs, ensuring accuracy and proper entry into the database.
Assure maintenance of clear, confidential, and up to date patient records.
Collate and submit weekly and monthly reports to SP, RHB, WHO/UN agencies, donors, and other stakeholders as required.
Participate in accurate clinical documentation and epidemiological data collection, verify data validity, and communicate findings to the M&E Manager and Program Lead.
Identify outbreak prone diseases and immediately report them to the Program Manager and relevant authorities for investigation and follow up.
Participate in trainings organized by SP, RHB, and partner organizations as required.
Assist with translation of medical and technical documents between English and Amharic when needed.
Perform any additional duties assigned

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE NEEDED

Doctor of Medicine (MD)
Minimum 5-year experience in hospital or clinic setting, preferably in low-resource setting.
Renewed medical practitioner license is mandatory
INGO experience is a plus

LANGUAGE

Proficiency in English and Amharic
Knowledge of the regional language required
Knowledge of any other national language is a plus
