The Human Resources Associate is responsible for overseeing the staff contract, attendance, and human resources-related issues efficiently. Unity Demining Solutions (UDS) is an Ethiopian non-governmental organization registered with the ACSO since 2024, dedicated to the provision of mine clearance and risk education, with a diverse staff from military and civilian backgrounds, founded by 05 retired veteran Senior General officers. UDS is currently in partnership with The HALO Trust, the world’s oldest and largest humanitarian demining organisation, with 10,000 staff in 30 countries. HALO has been registered in Ethiopia since 2021 and established mine action operations in Afar region in 2025. UDS is jointly deploying teams with HALO in the Afar Regional State since 2025, bringing together ENDF veterans and HALO-trained civilians. UDS is now looking for a dynamic programme officer to strengthen their HQ team in Addis.
The recent 2020–2022 armed conflict in Tigray has left large areas of northern Ethiopia contaminated with explosive ordnance. Spillover of combat operations and explosive remnants of war (ERW) from Tigray impacted neighbouring Afar, home to pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities who rely on access to grazing land for survival. UDS intends to grow its work with HALO in northern Ethiopia to address this pressing and long-term humanitarian and development issue.
Unity Demining Solutions is seeking a Programme Officer (PO) to join their team in its Addis HQ. The Programme Officer will play a central role in ensuring the effective management, delivery and communication of the UDS activities in Ethiopia. This role combines programme coordination, donor and contract management, external engagement, monitoring and evaluation. The Programme Officer, under the supervision of the UDS General Manager, will oversee donor reporting and proposal writing, gather and analyse operational data to track progress against targets, engage with donors and stakeholders, and represent UDS publicly on behalf of the programme.
This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to transform programme data and activities into compelling proposals, reports, case studies and external communications. This is a varied role requiring a balance of analytical, organisational and representational skills. The successful candidate will need to work effectively across teams, maintain donor confidence through robust contract management and contribute to UDS’s visibility through professional communications and advocacy.
Donor Engagement
• Support the UDS General Manager in seeking out new funding opportunities.
• Write concept notes, project proposals and programme briefs for potential donors, ensuring high-quality, persuasive submissions aligned with donor requirements.
• Review and draft budget narratives, coordinating closely with the finance team, for donor reports, work plans and proposals.
• Support the General Manager with the management of its existing partnership with The HALo Trust, ensuring compliance with obligations and UDS’s internal policies.
• Represent UDS at relevant meetings and events.
Communications and Advocacy
• Produce programme publications and digital content such as infographics, brochures, briefing documents, displays and presentations using visual communication tools (e.g., Piktochart, Canva).
• Travel each cycle to joint HALO-UDS field operations to develop case studies, human-interest stories and emotive narratives for demonstrating programme impact.
External Engagement and Partnerships
• Represent UDS externally with potential donors, partners, and other stakeholders; confidently deliver presentations and speak on behalf of the programme in public forums.
• Manage due diligence processes and maintain documentation required for donor and partner engagement.
• Support the UDS General Manager in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships to advance programme objectives.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)
• Use programme data to measure progress against objectives, highlight gaps and recommend solutions to strengthen programme delivery.
• Contribute to programme reviews, evaluations and learning processes to improve impact and accountability.
• Ensure programme outputs are captured and stored systematically for use in reports, proposals, and communications.
Programme Support
• Support the drafting of UDS policies and strategic documents.
• Provide secretarial support for programme meetings, including agenda preparation and accurate minute-taking.

HALO is registered in Ethiopia since 2021, and is now actively looking to establish mine action operations in the Afar Region. To do so, HALO is looking to recruit a qualified and dynamic Office Manager responsible for the overall administration of HALO’s soon-to-be-opened office in Afar.
The Multitask Team Supervisor holds full responsibility for the planning, coordination, and execution of Non-Technical Survey and Explosive Ordnance Disposal operations in the field. This is a roving, field-based role, operating in deployment cycles with scheduled stand-downs for rest and recovery. The Supervisor leads a dedicated team of four members, ensuring all activities are conducted safely, ethically, and in line with HALO’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Ethiopia National Mine Standards (ENMAS), and International Mine Action Standards (IMAS). He/She is responsible for all aspects of safety, efficient operations, administration, and discipline within the team.
In addition to core survey responsibilities, the role requires flexibility to support Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) callouts in coordination with other International Operators and regional institutions as needed. This position is central to HALO’s efforts to reduce the threat of explosive hazards and improve the safety and security of conflict-affected communities.

The ICP (Intermediate Care Provider, or the “the medic”) is responsible for providing emergency medical coverage to HALO’s field operations (demining, community liaison, road-traffic accidents, explosive ordnance disposal, etc.). In the event of an accident, the ICP treats the casualty and ensures proper treatment during evacuation in accordance with the medical standard operating procedures (SOP). This includes administering first aid, stabilizing, and monitoring the casualty during transport to a hospital. Casualties may include those injured in mine accidents, road accidents, or other work-related incidents.
The ICP is also responsible for the care and maintenance of all the medical equipment, including the MTK (Major Trauma Kit) and the MIK (Minor Injury Kit). The ICP must maintain high standards of hygiene, discipline, and obedience while in the field, setting an example for other team members. They must also adhere to and comply with HALO policies and programme SOPs.
