HFE which was established in 1974 G.C by Drs. Catherine and Reginald Hamlin has been caring for the women of Ethiopia for almost 60 years. Including our main Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa we have 5 regional hospitals, rehabilitation and reintegration center and The Hamlin College of Midwives.

We deploy midwives into rural health centers across the country and provide mentoring and other support services to these facilities.

Job Purpose:

The Gardener is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the gardens, lawns, and overall greenery of the Hamlin College of Midwifery and Desta Mender compound. The role contributes to creating a peaceful, clean, and welcoming environment that reflects Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia’s values of care, dignity, and excellence.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Job Description (JD) for a Gardener at Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia specifically designed for the Hamlin College of Midwifery and Desta Mender (Rehabilitation and Reintegration Center):

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the gardens, flowerbeds, trees, and lawns across both Hamlin College of Midwifery and Desta Mender compounds.
  • Water, plant, prune, weed, and trim vegetation to ensure a healthy and attractive landscape.
  • Support the cultivation of medicinal, decorative, and indigenous plants that complement the institution’s environment.
  • Operate and maintain gardening tools, equipment, and irrigation systems safely and efficiently.
  • Apply fertilizers and pest control measures as directed, following environmental and safety guidelines.
  • Regularly mow lawns, clear pathways, and ensure that the compound remains tidy and free from litter or debris.
  • Monitor plant health and report any diseases, pests, or other issues to the Facilities Supervisor.
  • Assist with seasonal planting, landscaping, and tree maintenance projects.
  • Safely dispose of garden waste and maintain composting or recycling areas where applicable.
  • Provide gardening support during institutional events and activities when needed.

About You

Education Requirement

  • 5 years as a Gardener

Work Experience

  • Minimum of Grade 10 education or equivalent.

Skills:

  • Proven experience in gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance (experience in institutional settings preferred).
  • Knowledge of plant care, soil management, and basic horticultural practices.
  • Ability to use and maintain gardening tools and small machinery.
  • Physically fit and able to perform outdoor manual work.

Job Description (JD) for a Senior Human Resources Officer position at Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia

Key Responsibilities:

1. Recruitment and Onboarding; Support other HR team:

  • With the end-to-end recruitment process, including job posting, shortlisting, interviewing, and reference checks.
  • With coordinating onboarding and induction process for new employees to ensure smooth integration.
  • With Maintaining accurate recruitment documentation and reports.

2. HR Administration, Data, and Record Management; Support other HR team:

  • With maintaining up-to-date and confidential personnel records for all staff.
  • With Preparing HR-related letters, contracts, and other documentation in accordance with policies and labor laws.
  • With Ensuring HR data accuracy and timely updates in HR information systems,
  • Support with HR- Data and Payroll administration and Other HR activities as necessary.

3. Performance Management

  • Support the implementation and follow-up of performance management processes across departments.
  • Assist managers and staff in setting performance goals and conducting appraisals.
  • Track performance improvement plans and staff development needs.

4. Employee Relations and Communication

  • Serve as a first point of contact for HR-related inquiries and staff concerns.

  • Education Requirement : MA in Human Resource Management, Management, MBA, or related field.

  • Work Experience : Minimum of 5 years of relevant HR experience in the same position, preferably in NGO environment.
