DURATION: 8 Months

PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The Logistics (Customs) Intern will support the customs clearance process for imported goods, ensuring compliance with customs regulations and the timely release of shipments. The role provides hands-on
experience in logistics operations, documentation management, and coordination with government authorities, clearing and forwarding (C&F) agents, and internal teams

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in preparing, reviewing, and organizing shipping documents, import permits, and Ethiopian Customs Declarations (ECDs).
  • Support coordination with Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) agents and ensure timely submission of documents to relevant government authorities.
  • Track incoming shipments and obtain regular status updates from Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) agents.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date records of documents, including filing, archiving, and retrieval of documents, including final declarations.
  • Monitor and track closure of declarations and container guarantees.
  • Update shipment trackers and support in preparation of periodic reports on shipment status, challenges, and completed clearances.
  • Reconcile received commodity quantities against customs declaration balances.
  • Assist with service invoice verification from Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) and superintendent companies, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Perform other administrative tasks as assigned.

ELIGIBILITY

To be considered for an internship with WFP, applicants must meet one of the following requirements listed below:

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme (for example, bachelor’s degree) from a recognised university and have completed at least two years of the programme. Candidates should have attended classes in the past 12 months; (graduate in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field.)
  • Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (for example, master’s degree) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the past 12 months; (graduate in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field.)
  • Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment in the university.
  • Fluency in oral and written communication in English and Amharic.
  • Be fit to travel to, and work at, the duty station of the internship.
  • Not be sons, daughters, brothers or sisters of WFP employees.
  • The Programme will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

• Good communication and record-keeping skills

• Experience in using Microsoft Excel and Outlook

• Basic understanding of import/export or customs processes.
