Project Context and Scope

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Ethiopia supports the Government and partners in strengthening migration governance, promoting safe migration, and responding to humanitarian and development needs. Effective communication is critical to IOM’s mission, ensuring visibility of activities, advocacy, and engagement with stakeholders, donors, and beneficiaries.

Responsibilities

Tasks to be performed under this contract

Draft, edit, and produce high-quality content (press releases, human interest stories, social media posts, newsletters, reports, etc.).
Support the coordination of media relations, including drafting press materials.
Update IOM Ethiopia’s digital platforms (website, social media channels), ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination.
Support the organization of events, campaigns, and outreach activities, ensuring proper documentation, branding, and visibility.
Liaise with the Graphic Designers to ensure coherence and compliance with corporate guidelines.
Monitor media coverage and prepare regular reports on communication activities and impact.
Provide communications capacity-building support to IOM staff and partners as needed.
Support the planning, coordination, and communication aspects of high-level visits, including preparing briefing materials, organizing media coverage, and ensuring consistent messaging and visibility throughout the visits.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Performance indicators for the evaluation of results

Number and quality of communication materials (press releases, stories, social media posts, newsletters, reports) produced and disseminated per month.
Timeliness and accuracy of updates on IOM Ethiopia’s digital platforms, measured by frequency of updates and engagement analytics.
Number of communication capacity-building activities conducted and participants trained.
Effectiveness of event documentation and branding, as evaluated through post-event reports and visibility outcomes.
Quality and timeliness of communication support provided for high-level visits, including the preparation of briefing materials and media coverage.
Regular submission and quality of communication activity reports.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field; or a first university degree with equivalent professional experience.

Experience

At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in communication, preferably with international organizations or NGOs.
Proven experience in drafting and editing content for various audiences.
Familiarity with migration issues and the humanitarian-development context in Ethiopia is an asset.

Skills

Good knowledge of digital communication tools and content management systems.
Videography and photography skills.
Good knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications (Premiere Pro, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
Creativity, adaptability, and attention to detail.

Languages

For this consultancy, excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

IOM covers Consultants against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the consultancy. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
