Center for Justice is a civil society organization dedicated to promoting access to justice, human rights, rule of law and legal reform in Ethiopia. Center for Justice (CJ) is working for systemic and service changes in the Ethiopian Criminal Justice System to create a just , humane and effective prison and penal system by influencing decision –makers, opinion formers and the public to reduce the use of prison, improve conditions of prisoners and children , promote equality and human rights in the criminal justice system.

Organization Overview:

Center for Justice is currently seeking highly motivated and qualified Law Graduates to fill the following two positions.

These roles are excellent opportunities for recent graduates to gain practical legal experience in both grassroots legal aid and institutional project management.

• Position 1: Legal Aid Service Provider Intern (4 Openings)
• Duty Station: Addis Ababa (Specifically placed at selected police stations: Kality and Areda)
• Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide primary legal aid and counseling to individuals in police custody, ensuring their constitutional and legal rights are protected during pre-trial detention.
• Conduct initial legal assessments and interview detainees to understand their cases.
• Monitor the condition of detention centers and report any human rights violations or due process breaches.
• Assist in the preparation of legal documents, such as bail applications, petitions, and pleadings.
• Follow up on court hearings and liaise with police officers, investigators, and public prosecutors on behalf of clients.
• Keep accurate and confidential records of all legal interventions and case files

Required Qualifications:

• LL.B Degree in Law (Must be a recent graduate or pending graduation confirmation).
• Strong knowledge of Ethiopian Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Human Rights laws.
• High level of empathy, patience, and resilience to work within a police station environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Willingness to be stationed specifically at Kality or Areda police stations.
