Health and Nutrition Support Officer -2 Positions (Asegede and Tahaty Adiabo)

• Must be fluent in Tigrigna language

Role Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to support project targeted health facilities in planning and implementation of preventive and curative health and nutrition services including outreach activities according to the national protocols, as well as universal health standards.

Responsibilities:

Technical Support and Facilitation

• Undertake joint health facility assessments with RHB/WOHO to identify service gaps and support actions required to functionalize health facilities.
• Provide on-the-job coaching, mentorship, and training to HEWs, HDAs, and Community Volunteers on IMNCI, EPI, ANC/PNC, recording and reporting, supply and cold chain management, and other essential primary health care components.
• Support health facilities and WOHO through logistical assistance for essential medical supplies, equipment, and cold chain materials.
• Deliver and disseminate health, nutrition, and IYCF-E education messages to communities using multiple contact points, including TSFP distribution sites and other community platforms.
• Conduct regular beneficiary screening at community level structures and ensure HEWs perform accurate anthropometric measurements, minimizing inclusion and exclusion errors and ensuring maximum program coverage. Verify correct recording of measurements on beneficiary cards.
• Assist HEWs and HDAs/CVs in community mobilization, active case finding, defaulter tracing, and follow-up of non-responders.
• Facilitate and strengthen the referral pathway for acute malnutrition cases, ensuring proper linkages between SC → OTP → TSFP, and attend OTP sites to support HEWs where required.
• Support caregivers through cooking demonstrations and key messaging to ensure proper preparation and utilization of TSFP food and appropriate use of RUTF (Plumpy’Nut).
• Train HDAs/VHLS through HEWs and strengthen community structures to improve program performance and service uptake.
• Liaise with local authorities, Kebele committees, community elders, and influential leaders on program implementation and performance issues, and represent the team in coordination meetings as required.
• Ensure Gender issues are mainstreamed across all team activities.
• Uphold Concern’s image and values at all times, respect the dignity of beneficiaries and communities, and perform any other duties as assigned by the line manager/supervisor/team leader.

Coordination and networking

• In collaboration with the woreda team leader and Health & Nutrition Officer, facilitate and participate in woreda-level Health and Nutrition Task Force meetings, chaired by the Woreda Health Office and/or the Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Office (DPPO).
• Ensure good communication with the Concern internal team
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with government bodies, Consortioum members and other stakeholders, and work in close collaboration.
• Report problems encountered in the centre or within the team to the immediate supervisor
• Propose solution to solve any problem faced and report them to the immediate supervisor
• Participate actively in regular staff meetings
• Respect of all CWW procedures (HR, Logs & IT, and Finance etc.)

Planning, Reporting and Accountability

• Prepare and regularly share weekly and monthly work plans with the line manager, and ensure proper documentation is maintained in collaboration with the team.
• Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports using the recommended reporting tools, along with any other required documentation, for submission to the immediate supervisor.
• Support and assist Woreda Health Office (WoHO) staff in recording, reporting, and managing supplies for the health program.
• Ensure weekly and monthly reports are submitted to the health and nutrition officer using appropriate reporting tools.
• Report any problems in a timely manner to the immediate supervisor
• Ensure that program participants and stakeholders have clear information about the program activities as appropriate and relevant to them.
• At all times, adhere to policies and guidelines of Concern.
• Support on cascading induction on mainstreaming gender, protection, accountability, HIV/AIDS, and equality to other project staff.
• Ensure proper documentation of good practices, success stories, challenges for learning and sharing
• Follow clearly appropriate protocols and guidelines
• Participate in weekly and monthly data compilation and reporting of health activities.
• Prepare regular weekly & Monthly reports on activities, identified problems, and proposed solutions for submission to the immediate supervisor and, when required, to the woreda team leader.
• Ensure timely request of drugs, supplies and other program items.

Additional Duties

• Perform other duties assigned by the line manager for the accomplishment of Programme objectives.

Role Holder Requirements:

Required:

• Diploma or Degree in Public Health/Nursing
• Minimum of 3 years relevant experience
• Profound experience in curative and preventive health services,
• Computer literate
• NGO experience in emergency projects is an advantage
• Good communication and report writing skills
• Good negotiation skill with government and other agencies
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English.
• Good interpersonal skills and team player with sensitivity to cultural diversity
• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability to understand and respect the cultural, religious and political environment and to work well with staff and local authorities in a diplomatic
• Experience in providing training and capacity building for staff
