Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 13 million patients and today deploys its operations in 14 countries. In 2023, ALIMA cared for 2.8 million patients, including over a million children under the age of 5, received 157,393 people for mental health consultations, assisted 67,617 births, carried out 64 projects in 14 countries. Whenever possible, we work in partnership with local NGOs to ensure that our patients benefit from the best and most relevant expertise wherever it is, whether within their own country or in the rest of the world. In addition, to improve the humanitarian response, we are carrying out operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the field of the fight against malnutrition and viral hemorrhagic fevers.

ALIMA’S TEAM: more than 2000 people are currently working for ALIMA. The field teams, closest to the patients, receive their support from coordination teams generally based in the countries’ capitals. These receive support from the 4 desk teams and the emergency and opening team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The Paris and New York teams are actively working to raise funds and represent ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA Galaxy includes individuals and partner teams working on behalf of other organisations such as medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERT Health, SOS Doctors / KEOGO, AMCP, research organisations PACCI, and INSERM, Bordeaux or Copenhagen Universities, the INGO Solidarités International, and many others.

ALIMA IN ETHIOPIA

ALIMA, registered in Ethiopia in December 2022, worked in the Somali region, south-east of the country. ALIMA had implemented a Health and Nutrition project in three woredas in the Afder zone from May 2023 to October 2024, followed by another integrated health and nutrition response from  May 2025 – present.  In Tigray, ALIMA also supported integrated health and nutrition programs in Shire (May 2025 – May 2026) and Southeastern Zone (November 2024 – present).

Pending confirmation of donor funding,  ALIMA plans to launch an integrated response in health and protection to support refugees in the Gambella region (Nuer Zone, Makuey Woreda, Luakdong Refugee Camp).  The project intends to focus on ensuring 24/7 access to quality Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), including Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (BEmONC), Clinical Management of Rape (CMR) for GBV survivors, integrated Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and establishing a vital medical referral loop to Nyangnyang Primary Hospital.

LOCATION OF POSITION:  Gambella region, Lukdong Camp & Nyangyang with frequent visits of project areas within Nuer zone, Wanthoa, Makuey, & Akobo Woredas and Gambella Town.

Being a new region of intervention for ALIMA, the new team will guarantee the implementation of the new project as well as all administrative and logistical requirements to establish ALIMA in the region. This team will be based in the Nuer zone, Nyangnyang town and Lukdong Refugee Camp, and will ensure the implementation of the activities and a smooth beginning of operations on the ground.

FUNCTIONAL AND HIERARCHICAL LINKS

• Reports to: Medical Referent / PC, with functional support from the Mission Pharmacist
• Collaborates with: Logistics Supervisor, Midwife Supervisor, Midwives, and partners

PROTECTION OF BENEFICIARIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS

Level 3: As part of his/her duties, the incumbent will visit programs and come into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, a criminal record check or a certificate of good character will be required. In situations where a criminal record check or character reference is not possible, a declaration of honour will be requested.

MISSION AND MAIN ACTIVITIES

Main Purpose

The Pharmacy Stock Manager is responsible for the overall management of the project-level medical store. This includes ensuring the professional storage, stock control, supply tracking, and systematic distribution of medical drugs medicines, reproductive health kits, PEP kits, and clinical equipment. The position ensures pharmacy management follows ALIMA standards, maintaining perfect cold-chain systems and avoiding stockouts at the Luakdong camp health facility.

Accountabilities

Warehouse & Inventory Management

• Ensure that all medicines, medical consumables, BEmONC/PEP kits, and laboratory supplies are stored in clean, secure, and dry conditions following ALIMA protocols.
• Organize stock by therapeutic class, batch number, and expiration date (utilizing the FEFO – First Expired, First Out principle).
• Manage daily store operations and work from. Update and maintain physical and digital stock cards daily, tracking every entry and dispatch immediately.
• Perform systematic physical stock counts every month, reporting any discrepancies, damaged supplies, stock ruptures, or near-expiry drugs directly to supervisors.

Cold Chain Management

• Operate and monitor the pharmacy’s medical cold chain equipment, ensuring temperature-sensitive medications (e.g., Oxytocin) are kept within strict temperature ranges.
• Perform temperature readings twice daily, recording them on dedicated tracking sheets, and immediately report any technical faults.

Supply and Distribution Control

• Prepare and process medical orders for Luakdong camp health facility based on approved internal requests, ensuring safe transport packaging.
• Track the consumption patterns of medical centers to anticipate upcoming stock needs and prevent stockouts.
• Work closely with the Logistics Supervisor to secure smooth supply deliveries and reliable medical transport routes from Nyangnyang to Luakdong camp.

Compliance, Security, & Reporting

• Ensure the pharmacy facility remains highly secure, restricting access strictly to authorized project personnel.
• Ensures all stock management and documentation comply with ALIMA procedures and Ethiopian regulatory policies
• Maintain clear and complete files of all dispatches, waybills, and loss reports to prepare monthly medical supply consumption files.
• Manage the safe disposal of expired or damaged medical waste, coordinating closely with medical and logistics managers.

Implementation of prevention measures against abuse of power, gender-based and sexual violence: 

• Participates in training and awareness sessions
• Implements abuse prevention standards
• Ensures that team members complete training and awareness sessions and follow abuse prevention rules
• Helps create and maintain a nurturing and protective environment

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Education: 

• Degree or Diploma in Pharmacy (Druggist/Pharmacist) with an active, valid professional practicing license from the relevant Ethiopian health authority.

Experiences: 

• At least 2 years of professional experience managing medical stocks or humanitarian pharmacies, preferably in an emergency refugee camp setting.
• Proven hands-on experience handling cold chain equipment, temperature trackers, and medical logistics.
• Experience compiling pharmacy registers, inventory counts, and medical consumption reports.

Desirable

• Prior experience working with international NGOs in remote, high-temperature, or flood-prone locations like the Nuer Zone.
• Familiarity with Ethiopian national protocols for pharmacy inventory systems and medical waste disposal

Technical Skills: 

• Meticulous attention to detail in inventory tracking and storage protocols.
• Good command of basic computer programs, particularly Microsoft Excel for inventory tracking tables.
• Solid knowledge of pharmaceuticals, generic medicines, dosage terminology, and medical logistics.

Core Competencies

• Strong sense of professional ethics, responsibility, and transparency.
• Ability to work in a multicultural team environment and maintain proactive communication with clinic staff.
• Capacity to organize heavy workloads and work efficiently under pressure in a remote environment.

Languages spoken by the candidate

• Oral and written fluency in English and Amharic is essential.
• Knowledge of the Nuer language is a strong asset.
