Job Purpose
The Field Coordinator leads the implementation of the Yayu Biosphere Reserve project at field level. He/she is responsible for effectively and efficiently executing coffee and other crop management activities; coordinating all field operations; examining and addressing quality-related challenges; and developing tailored agronomic approaches. As the head of the field office, the Field Coordinator oversees field officers, ensures high-quality delivery of project interventions, strengthens collaboration with partners, and ensures alignment with HRNS Ethiopia’s holistic approaches and methodologies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Coordination & Implementation
- Lead and oversee day-to-day implementation of all Yayu Project activities at the field office.
- Ensure project interventions (Good Agricultural practice), climate actions, gender household methodologies, and livelihood activities are implemented according to project standards and recommendations.
- Coordinate and supervise project extensionists, field officers, facilitators, and local partners across the intervention areas.
- Conduct regular field visits to assess progress, identify challenges, and ensure high-quality and timely delivery of activities.
Technical Support & Capacity Building
- Develop, promote, and ensure adoption of Good Agricultural Practices, agroforestry, and climate-smart agriculture techniques.
- Identify agronomic and quality-related problems and design appropriate agronomic solutions for farmers.
- Coach and mentor project field staff and government partners; deliver tailored technical trainings as needed.
- Support knowledge transfer mechanisms and establish systems for continuous learning among farmers and project beneficiaries.
Partnership Management
- Work closely with co-implementing partners (IPs), woreda and kebele offices, cooperatives, and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure strong collaboration with local government institutions to enhance sustainability and ownership of project interventions.
Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting
- Collect, organize, and document field data for monitoring, evaluation, and reporting purposes.
- Prepare and submit high-quality monthly, quarterly, and annual project progress reports.
- Document lessons learned, best practices, case stories, and success models for internal learning and external dissemination.
- Support the development of communication materials such as brochures, flyers, narratives, and event presentations.
Other Responsibilities
- Ensure a strong working relationship with all HRNS Ethiopia teams and contribute to achievement of project goals.
- Design and maintain Monitoring & Evaluation systems to track project progress and outcomes.
- Manage field budgets, and will develop ToRs
- Support planning and logistics for field trainings, workshops, and stakeholder events.
- Maintain a high level of accountability, integrity, and professionalism in project implementation.
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned by the field office or head office.
Responsibility for assigned adhoc duties
- Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Project manager
Job Requirements
Education
- M.Sc/B.Sc. Degree in Plant Science, Agri Economics, and Agribusiness and Value Chain Management.
Experience
- Minimum 4 years (M.Sc.) or 6 years (B.Sc.) relevant experience in community-level agricultural extension, agronomy, or field project implementation.
- Proven experience in agricultural extension packages, innovative agronomic practices, climate-smart agriculture, and farmer capacity building.
- Experience in project coordination, planning, reporting, and multi-stakeholder engagement.
- Minimum 3 years prior experience working with NGOs/INGOs on agriculture, climate, biodiversity, and capacity-building projects required.
- Experience managing field staff and remote teams is required.
Competencies and skills
- Strong agronomic and analytical skills; ability to identify problems and deliver practical solutions.
- Ability to view agriculture as a business and promote market-oriented farming.
- Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent communication in English, Afaan Oromo, and Amharic.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to travel frequently and work in remote field contexts.
- Willing to work when re-assigned for work demanding areas

Experience

- Proven experience in agricultural extension packages, climate-smart agriculture, and farmer capacity building.
- Experience in project coordination, planning, reporting, and multi-stakeholder engagement.
