REPORTING & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: The Field Coordinator reports to the Project Manager
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY List the most important responsibilities first.
- In collaboration with the trained Integrated Eye Care Workers (IECWs), HEWs and HDAs as well as the health institutions, Woreda Health Offices and Zonal Health Department; participates to plan, implement, monitor quality of services such as different trainings, SAFE strategy, Cataract surgery, refractive errors and other eye care services.
- In collaboration with the trained teachers, Woreda Education Offices and Zonal Education Department; plans and assists the service provider in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of school eye care service.
- Facilitates the link between the zones, woredas, health facilities and Orbis International-Ethiopia.
- Leads school and community eye screening programs (vision testing programs).
- Supervises and provides guidance for primary eye care at the field level in relation to optometry.
- Prepare the yearly eyeglasses procurement plan of the project and follow the timely distribution it to the eye care facilities.
- Performs refraction and prescribes eyeglasses for refractive errors.
- Coordinate the post cataract surgery outcome assessment and eyeglasses compliance by end users at SECUs and schools.
- Coordinate refraction trainings for teachers, IECWs, HWs and optical technicians working in PECUs and SECUs.
- Collect and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual all project activities report together with partners and submit to the supervisor.
- Prepare detailed annual activities plans derived from the project plan together with partners and submit them to the supervisor.
- Participates in project mid-term and final evaluations as well as the end of project results conference, as requested.
- Participate in zonal level health, education and finance sectors planning and review meetings being organized by zone departments and if necessary, at woreda level.
- Follows up the timely and judicious utilization of resources by partners and monitors the timely submission of activity.
- Handles some petty cashes transferred to the project coordination office accounts and timely settling.
- Organize and undertake joint supportive supervisions, and comprehensive outreach activities of SECUs in collaboration with stakeholders and share the finding to the supervisor
- Organize annual and bi-annual review meeting of the project, prepare minute of the meetings and share to office which Orbis hosts.
- Prepare mid-term and term evaluation reports of the project and share to supervisor
- Coordinate MDA/Zithromax campaign of the project areas and follow the campaign to meet the WHO threshold of success
- Performs any other activities as may be assigned to her/him by his supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- B.Sc. in Optometry (preferable) with minimum of 4 years of experience.
- B.Sc. in Ophthalmic Officer, Public Health, or other related field of study
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience for B.Sc holders.
- Experience as Optometrist, and Ophthalmic Officer is highly considerable.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing, managing, and monitoring “multi partner” health and social sector projects/programs and/or population health research, preferably with experience in project design.
- Experience in blindness prevention, trachoma, and/or preventive ophthalmology.
- Training on Project Design and Program Development.

- Knowledge of local language (at least speaking command) is an advantage.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-driven and CQI-based environment.

Employment Duration: Until September 30, 2030 with possibility of extension depending on availability of budget
