Job Description
Background
Cheshire Ethiopia (CE) is a non-governmental, non-profit development organization dedicated to promoting the rights and improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in Ethiopia. CE has been working for decades in the areas of physical rehabilitation, inclusive education, livelihood promotion, and community-based rehabilitation (CBR), empowering persons with disabilities to lead independent and dignified lives.
Since 2009 CE implements a comprehensive program in partnership with Liliane Fonds (LF).that focuses on inclusive education, rehabilitation, livelihood development, and community inclusion for children and youth with disabilities. Through this partnership, thousands of children have accessed education, medical and rehabilitation services, economic empowerment opportunities, and community support systems that enhance their participation in their community.
As part of documenting and communicating the outcomes of this collaboration and celebrating long years of partnership CE seeks to develop a comprehensive and visually engaging booklet that highlights the key results, success stories, and the transformative impact of the LF-supported projects. The booklet will serve as an advocacy, communication and knowledge-sharing tool for stakeholders, donors, policy makers, and the wider public.
To this end, CE seeks to hire an experienced individual consultant to lead the development, writing, and design of the booklet.
Objective of the Assignment
The objective of this consultancy is to produce a professionally written, informative and designed booklet that effectively communicates:
- The partnership and shared vision between CE and Liliane Fonds;
- Key achievements and impacts of the LF project in inclusive education, health, livelihood, social and empowerment;
- Inspiring stories and testimonials of children, youth, and families whose lives have changed through the program;
- Best practice, Successes story ,Lessons learned, innovative practices, and approaches that contributed to the program’s success;
- Visual documentation (photos and graphics) that capture the essence of inclusion and empowerment.
Scope of Work
The consultant will carry out the following specific tasks:
- Document Review:
- Review relevant project reports, annual summaries, monitoring data, and other documentation provided by Parter organizations, CE and LF.
- Field Visits and Interviews:
- Conduct field visits to selected partner organizations and hold interviews with project staff, beneficiaries, and partners to collect qualitative data and personal stories.
- Conduct interviews with crucial project staff since the beginning of the partnership
- Develop well structured, engaging, and inclusive written content covering the five thematic areas; using CBR as a strategy:
- Inclusive Education: Access, participation, and achievements of children with disabilities in education.
- Health: Physical and social rehabilitation services including medical interventions, physiotherapy services, provision of assistive devices and their impacts.
- Livelihood: Economic empowerment initiatives for youth with disabilities and their families.
- Social: active participation and engagement of children and youth with disabilities in day to day and recreation activities in their societies
- Empowerment: Efforts to change community attitudes and promote disability inclusion and in lobby and advocacy.
- Design the booklet layout incorporating text, photographs, infographics, and branding elements following CE and LF visibility guidelines.
- Present the draft booklet for feedback to CE.
- Incorporate comments and finalize the booklet for publication.

Duration of the Assignment
The consultancy will be conducted not over a period of 60 calendar days from the signing of the contract.
Reporting and Coordination
- The consultant will report to the desegregated staff of Cheshire Ethiopia and work closely with the Communications Officer and LF Project Team.
- Regular progress meetings will be held to ensure alignment with expectations and adherence to the project timeline.
About You
Required Qualifications and Experience
The consultant (individual or firm) should possess the following qualifications and competencies:
- Advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Studies, language and linguistics or a related field;
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in documentation, communication, or publication development for NGOs or development organizations;
- Demonstrated experience in writing and designing impact documentation or project booklets, preferably in disability inclusion or social development sectors;
- Proficiency in graphic design and layout software (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, or equivalent);
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills in English
- Understanding of disability inclusion, community-based rehabilitation, and child-centered development;
- Strong analytical, communication, and time management skills.
Deliverable Standards
The final booklet should:
- Be professionally written and designed, using simple, inspiring, and human centered storytelling;
- Include high-quality photographs, infographics, and design elements;
- Follow CE and LF branding and visibility guidelines;
- Be delivered in print-ready PDF and editable design file formats (InDesign/Illustrator).
Payment Schedule
Payment will be made in three installments based on satisfactory completion of deliverables:
