Education Officer

Position Summary:

The District Education Office Focal Person (Education Officer) is responsible for coordinating and supporting the implementation of the PlayMatters Project at the district (woreda) level. The position serves as the primary liaison between the District Education Office, schools, communities, and implementing partners (Plan International and IRC) to ensure the effective delivery of quality, inclusive, and play-based education interventions.

The Education Officer provides technical support to teachers and school leaders, coordinates training and mentoring activities, conducts regular school monitoring and supportive supervision, and ensures timely collection, verification, and reporting of project data. The role also promotes child safeguarding, inclusive education, community engagement, and collaboration with key education stakeholders to strengthen the sustainability of project outcomes

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate implementation of PlayMatters activities across target schools.
• Provide technical support and coaching to teachers and school leaders.
• Organize and follow up on capacity-building activities.
• Monitor project implementation and conduct supportive supervision visits.
• Collect, verify, and report project data and progress.
• Promote child safeguarding, gender equality, and inclusive education.
• Strengthen collaboration among schools, communities, and education partners.
• Support effective use of project resources and document lessons learned

 

Grade level: VIII

Location: Addis Kedam, Fageta Lakuma woreda

Report to : Program Coordinator

Duration of employment: One year with possibility of extension based on performance and availability of budget

Required skills and Qualifications

• BSC degree in Education, Social Science or related fields.
• At least four years of relevant experience in the education sector.
• Experience in teacher professional development, school improvement, and education project implementation.
• Strong coordination, communication, planning, monitoring, and report-writing skills.
• Knowledge of Ethiopia’s education system and play-based, child-centered learning approaches is an advantage
• Solid understanding of quality improvement methodologies and tools in education settings.
• Demonstrated experience in managing, conducting, and following up on training programs using participatory methods.
• Experience in working closely with local non-governmental organizations and government counterparts is highly desirable
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Fluency in the English language (written and verbal) is required.
• Mandatory fluency in one of the primary local languages of the areas of assignment is essential for operational effectiveness.
• Must be willing and able to travel frequently within the project implementation woreda and possess excellent knowledge of the region of assignment.
• Proven skills using Microsoft Office Pack: Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Outlook, PowerPoint in providing updates and reports.
