Job Description

The Institute of Ethiopian Studies (IES) at Addis Ababa University invites applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Ethiopian Studies.

Overview

In place of outgoing editor-in-chief, Professor Taddesse Berisso, the Institute of Ethiopian Studies invites applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Ethiopian Studies (JES). The position is initially offered for a three-year term, with the possibility of continued renewal based on satisfactory performance. Established in 1963, the Journal of Ethiopian Studies (JES) is one of the oldest academic journals in Ethiopia.

Published biannually by the Institute of Ethiopian Studies at Addis Ababa University, the journal is bilingual publishing in Amharic and English, and focuses on the humanities, social sciences, and cultural studies. JES publishes original works which empirical studies, literature reviews, theoretical articles, methodological articles, and book reviews. It employs a double-blind peer-review model and provides immediate open access to its content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Editorial Leadership: Oversee the academic content, strategic direction, and overall quality of the journal.
  • Peer Review Management: Manage the double-blind peer review process and ensure scholarly integrity.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Lead an international editorial board and coordinate with diverse contributors.
  • Policy Compliance: Ensure all publications align strictly with newly approved institutional guidelines.

Eligibility

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Academic Qualification: A Ph.D. degree in one of the fields of social since and humanities. Multidisciplinary background is an asset.
  • Academic Rank: A minimum of Associate Professor or its equivalent
  • Editorial Experience: Proven track record in academic editorial service, including service in leading academic publications. International experience is an asset. .
  • Publication record: An excellent, documented publication track record in peer-reviewed journals, with a significant experience in publishing internationally.
  • Skills and Behavioral Competence: Has demonstrated ability to work effectively under deadline pressures, , an extraordinary dedication to scientific excellence and the advancement of knowledge, and a demonstrated skill in teamwork

  • New Applicants: Submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV), academic credentials, and a motivation letter indicating why you are best suitable and your core strategy for the growth of the JES.
  • Previous Applicants: Candidates who applied to the prior call must resubmit their application in response to this call.
