Under the general guidance of the Chief of the Travel, Transport and Visa Services Unit (TTVSU), Publications and Conference Management Section, and the Direct supervision of the supervisor of the Transport Unit, the driver shall perform the following duties. The incumbent provides transportation services to both internal and external clients, including staff members, VIP, and high-ranking officials, especially during meetings and official duties. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for transporting items between locations as needed. The incumbent ensures the vehicle is always clear and in good working condition, promptly notifying the supervisor of any issues or maintenance needs. The incumbent also keep the vehicles’ related paperwork up to date and assists the transport pool regularly and is available during off-hours as required to meet work demands.
• Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel, meeting participants, UN high level staff and dignitary guests of the commission , transport of general cargo goods and or specialized hazardous good vehicles.
• Makes regular deliveries of parcels, mail, documents, etc., between the UN office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc.
• Makes minor purchases and collects urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested. Collects goods from customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities. May make or collect payment for goods.
• Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required in collaboration with ECA protocol unit
• Deals effectively and tactfully with UN officials, visitors host country personnel and all UN partners.
• Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, electric system, tires pressure, etc.; perform minor repairs, arrange vehicles for periodic repairs or other repairs as required and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean at all times.
• Logs and maintains accurate records of all official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, tire change etc.
• Ensures to report vehicle problem to the sub-unit supervisor in timely fashion and that the steps required by the UN and local rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
• Applies good judgment in the context of assignments given. Arranges and oversees road worthiness tests for the official fleet and process renewal of insurance policy
• Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
• Demonstrate professionalism, maturity, accountability and responsibility in transport operations to ensure safety of passengers, vehicles, and goods being transported.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
