Introduction: About East African Initiative for Change (I4C)
The East African Initiative for Change (I4C) is a board-led, non-governmental, and not-for-profit organization based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, registered under CSO Proclamation No. 1113-2019 (registry number 4805) since March 2020. I4C is committed to promoting peace, justice, and equality across Ethiopia and the wider East African region. Our work focuses on preventing and transforming violent conflicts, building long-term peace institutions, and fostering inclusive societies.
2. Project Title and Assignment Overview
I4C is seeking a qualified Consultant to conduct an in-depth Conflict and peace Dynamics Assessment in the Oromia region.
- Project Title: Strengthening Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue & CSO Capacity for Peace in Oromia.
- Main Goal: The assessment is crucial for providing current, evidence-based analysis to inform a new peacebuilding strategy and design an effective conflict transformation program in the region.
3. Scope of Work and Key Deliverables
The selected Individual Consultant will be solely responsible for conducting a robust analysis, primarily focusing on conflict-affected areas in Oromia:
- Stakeholder Mapping: Conduct a comprehensive stakeholder mapping for the Oromia conflict and peace dynamics.
- Key Actor Analysis: Identify main factors and key actors in the conflicts, detailing their positions, interests, and needs.
- Conflict Assessment: Assess the causes and drivers of conflicts in the region and analyze their potential implications on national peace and stability.
- Peace Efforts Mapping: Map all relevant peace and dialogue efforts, including an analysis of their prospects and challenges.
- Peace Prospects: Define clear prospects for peace and identify concrete entry points toward realizing consensus building and durable peace
About You
Required Qualifications and Experience
The Individual Consultant must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Education: A Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Peace and Conflict Studies, Sociology, or a closely related social science field.
- Experience:
- Demonstrated professional experience in conflict analysis, peace economy analysis, and peacebuilding assessments in Ethiopia or the Horn.
- In-depth, current understanding of the peace and conflict landscape in Oromia and Ethiopia.
- Proven ability to conduct robust fieldwork and stakeholder interviews in sensitive environments.
- Excellent report writing and analytical skills in English.
- Language: Fluency in Afaan Oromo is mandatory.
