Community Liaison Officers (6 Positions)

Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Community Liaison Agent will be responsible for working under the Community Area Coordinators and will be based in their respective Kebele or Woreda, assisting with and implementing the local community strategy, which includes dissemination of the material provided by the APN Office. The person will additionally work with conservation-focused educational programs in schools and communities and the community development plan.

MAIN ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work under the area coordinators in communicating the outreach activities of APN Ethiopia in villages around Gambella NP.
  • Assist with implementation of the Community Development Plan and policies, e.g., the Human Wildlife Conflict Policy.
  • Assist with the implementation of regular community forums, stakeholder gatherings, and workshops. Support the Community Manager or Area Coordinators in stakeholder meetings where required, take minutes, and report on the results if required.
  • Disseminate communication materials required for the outreach programs.
  • Disseminate environmental conservation materials for schools and conservation clubs.
  • Support Area Coordinators with budget proposals and preparation of activities.
  • Support strong working relationships with traditional authorities, government institutions, and NGOs.
  • Assist on outreach activities for the community at large. This includes but is not limited to, providing material to the Area Coordinators to write-up news bulletins, quarterly newsletters, the organization of African Parks’ participation in public events, radio shows, displays, presentations, etc.
  • Liaise with the local community and stakeholders on matters affecting wildlife management and community developments and livelihoods.
  • Any other task or responsibility as defined by management—the above duties are not definitive and may be added to by the manager as required.

About You

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, conveying messages to different audiences using diverse media.
  • Excellent understanding of local customs.
  • Full proficiency in spoken and written English, Nuer, and/or Anyuak.
  • Must come from the area of operations you are selected for.

Skills

  • Experience of scheduling and administering meetings.
  • Strong empathy and understanding of community issues.
  • Well-respected in the community.
  • Have a can-do attitude.
  • A team player.
  • Experience or interest in environmental protection and/or education.
  • Willingness to live and work in a remote environment.
