Background
SOS Sahel Ethiopia is a registered humanitarian and development entity begun work in Ethiopia in 1989 as a country program of SOS Sahel International/UK. In 2005, the organization was registered and licensed as a Local Organization and currently operating in Oromia, Sidama, South & Central Ethiopia Regional States of the country in close collaboration and partnership with different stakeholder that consist of government, community institutions and other civil society organizations.
SOS Sahel Ethiopia is dedicated to improve living standards of smallholder farmers and herders through actions that enable them exercise their right, create fair access to resources and services, reduce the inequalities and power imbalance they experience, and enhance the sustainability of the fragile environment on which they depend. Its primary mandate and major operational focuses are enhancing food security, improving livelihoods, sustaining the environment, strengthening access to market, reducing vulnerability to disaster and saving lives, as well as influencing policy and practice.
Program and Position Summary
SOS Sahel Ethiopia jointly with IIRR & MELCA-Ethiopia is implementing MasterCard foundation funded program called “Mass Youth Employment in Apiculture (MaYEA) Program”. The partnership program is in operation in Oromia, Sidama, South, Central, Southwest, and Gambella Regions aiming to transform Ethiopia’s apiculture industry and enable 630,000 unemployed young people to access wage and self-employment through skilling and access to finance.
SOS Sahel Ethiopia, as part of its program implementation in 36 districts of four clusters in Bale, Sidama, Wolaita, and Kembata aims to address total of around 310,000 young people (80% women) to find work through strengthened and expanded markets in apiculture-centered agribusinesses.
Accordingly, SOS Sahel Ethiopia – MaYEA Program is seeking for an outstanding and motivated candidate for the position of Communication Officer who will be responsible for the design, planning and implementation of the communication and visibility initiatives of the program. The Communication Officer is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies, managing IT operations, and leading advocacy efforts to support the program and mission.
The ideal candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a deep understanding of nonprofit organizations, and a passion for making a positive impact. The Officer will report to the Program Manager and will liaise closely with MaYEA team at Head Office and the Program Field Offices advising on the overarching communication strategies of the program.
