Enhanced client satisfaction and immediate reporting of emergencies, challenges, and incidents to the Chief Medical Officer and supervisor. Strict adherence to medical ethics and confidentiality.
The United Nations Health Care Centre (UNHCC) in Ethiopia delivers medical services to all UN staff and their dependants. The centre operates a fleet comprising two advanced ambulances and one basic ambulance, providing emergency coverage continuously, 24 hours a day and seven days a week. To sustain this high standard of service, the clinic currently has three regular drivers and is seeking to recruit two additional drivers on an individual contractor basis to guarantee full 24/7 coverage.. Under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer and the Administrative Assistant of the Clinic; the Individual Contractor will be responsible to perform the following duties and responsibilities: Ambulance Service Provision and Staffing The centre is dedicated to providing prompt emergency responses by keeping ambulance services available at all times. The recruitment of additional drivers is essential to reinforce the team and support the uninterrupted delivery of service.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer and the Administrative Assistant, the Individual Contractor will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
Ambulance Driving
• Follow direct instructions from physicians and nurses, transporting patients to hospitals or other specified destinations within Addis Ababa.
• Drive UN vehicles and ambulances safely, prioritizing patient comfort and avoiding sudden or harmful movements.
• Deliver punctual, efficient, courteous, and accessible ambulance services to all clients, consistently practicing safe driving behavior.
• Facilitate airport security clearances and obtain pass permissions for air ambulance med-ical evacuations and wheelchair cases, ensuring safe and comfortable transfers.
• Assist the medical team with stretcher changes, provide first aid when necessary, and handle medical equipment and supplies.
• Apply safe patient-lifting techniques and use stretchers and stair chairs to move patients between the scene and the vehicle, ensuring patient comfort.
• Report relevant emergency factors immediately to hospital personnel, legal authorities, or traffic enforcement as required.
• Maintain a daily log of significant incidents, comments, or complaints for analysis and corrective action.
• Meet patients, UNHCC medical team, or official personnel at the airport when required, and interact effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
• Be punctual for all shift assignments and scheduled duties.
Logistics Duties
• Deliver parcels, documents, and other items between the office and other UN offices and institutions, including hospitals, ministries, and embassies.
• Provide shuttle service to UNHCC staff when required.
• Carry out routine vehicle maintenance, such as checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tyres; undertake minor repairs and arrange for additional maintenance as needed, keep-ing vehicles clean.
• Record fuel transport services in log-book records and notify the Administrative Assis-tant when maintenance is initiated by the Transport Unit.
• Make minor and urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested.
• Collect goods or medicines from drug stores in accordance with UN regulations and formalities; may make payments for goods purchased using petty cash.
• Ensure all necessary steps are followed in the event of an accident, in line with rules and regulations.
• Exercise sound judgement in all assigned tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
