Established in 2005, the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a not-for- profit, networking alliance and service organization that brings together various field epidemiology training programs (FETPs) in sub-Saharan Africa working side by side with Ministries of Health, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and regional and international partners. FETPs are field- based trainings with participants spending 25% of the time in classrooms and 75% in the field providing public health services while acquiring core competencies in field epidemiology.
