Job Description

The Plumber Technician is responsible for ensuring the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems and equipment within EMERGENCY facilities. The role supports the implementation of preventive and corrective maintenance activities, contributes to the safe and efficient functioning of utility services, and assists in maintaining infrastructure and equipment in accordance with technical standards, safety requirements, and organizational procedures.

The Plumber Technician task and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following points:

  • Install, repair, adjust and service of piping works and mechanical devices and equipment such as pumps, heating and air-conditioning systems, water heaters, boilers, fans, air compressors, filters, valves, diesel engines, etc. as per installation manuals.
  • Develop and maintain an up-dated database on plumbing works and prepare status reports for stations across the organization.
  • Draw a maintenance schedule and conduct periodic maintenance on equipment that require plumbing works.
  • Generate periodic maintenance status reports and submit to the manager.
  • Properly maintain the working tools and request for substitution when necessary.
  • Install and/or modify pipes and supports for water, gas, air, or other liquids or gasses with proper valves, instrumentation and fittings and fixtures, such as sinks and toilets, with necessary and appropriate tools.
  • Installs heating and air-conditioning systems, including water heaters.
  • Collaborates with contractors, construction workers, electricians, pipefitters, and steamfitters in installing and repairing plumbing equipment.
  • Periodically inspect and report on any defects or failures of mechanical systems and plumbing system or part of.
  • Check the process parameters and perform inspections and of any mechanical or plumbing systems and test systems for leaks or other operational problems and write reports.
  • Analyses problem and identifies appropriate tools and materials for repair.
  • Chooses plumbing materials based on budget, location, and intended use of the building.
  • Follows health and safety standards, complies with building codes and wear appropriate safety equipment.
  • Writes report documenting the problem and details of actions taken
  • Perform general plumbing maintenance on mechanical systems (firefighting, water treatment, diesel generators, boilers, thermal solar, medical gasses, waste waters, water distribution) and mechanical components.
  • Perform any troubleshoot of any mechanical and plumbing issue using appropriate drawings, documentation, tools and testing devices.
  • Schedules and oversees other workers and collaborate with electricians and any other department.
  • Prepares schedules and oversees other workers, such as assistants and helpers.

About You

  • Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing, Building Services, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water supply systems, drainage systems, pumps, boilers, compressors, air-conditioning systems, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Good knowledge of plumbing systems, water distribution networks, and drainage systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Ability to identify faults and perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Familiarity with the safe use of maintenance tools, testing equipment, and workshop machinery.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards applicable to maintenance activities.
  • Basic/good computer skills and knowledge of MS Office.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English, Amaric and Tigrinya.
  • Good organizational skills, reliability and attention to detail.
