Position: Case Management Assistant

Duty Station: Afar Region, Zone 4, Yalo Woreda

Type of Employment: One year Contract

Job Summary:

The Case Management Assistant provides essential frontline support for individual cases of children at risk and GBV survivors in Yalo Woreda. Reporting to the Protection Officer, the Assistant is responsible for the direct, day-to-day implementation of case management steps, ensuring that every beneficiary receives confidential, timely, and dignified care in accordance with national protection standards.

Core Duties:

Case Identification and Intake

  • Proactively identify vulnerable children (UASC, survivors of labor/abuse) and GBV survivors through community outreach and mobile team visits.
  • Conduct initial interviews and assessments using standardized, survivor-centered tools while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Case Planning and Implementation

  • Assist in developing individualized care and safety plans that address the specific needs and best interests of the beneficiary.
  • Accompany survivors and children to health centers, legal aid, or MHPSS services to ensure they successfully access the required support.
  • Ensure all protection activities adhere to “Do No Harm” principles and international survivor-centered standards.

Monitoring and Follow-up

  • Conduct scheduled follow-up meetings and home visits to monitor the well-being of beneficiaries and the progress of their care plans.
  • Work with the Protection Officer to determine when a case has reached its goals and can be safely closed or transitioned.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate, secure, and up-to-date physical and digital case files in line with Data Protection protocols.
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly situational reports regarding protection trends and service gaps in the targeted kebeles.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or a related Social Science field.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of practical experience in social work, community development, or case management within a humanitarian context.

Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of Child Protection Minimum Standards and GBV Guiding Principles.
  • Ability to use standardized case management forms and databases.

Language & Communication

  • English & Amharic: Professional fluency (written and spoken)
  • Afar’af: Proficiency in the local language is a significant advantage for effective direct communication with beneficiaries

Soft Skills & Physical Requirements

  • Strong empathetic listening skills, high ethical standards, and the ability to maintain composure when handling sensitive or traumatic information.
  • Ability and willingness to live and work full-time in a remote, high-temperature, and high-stress environment with basic infrastructure.
  • Absolute commitment to PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) and the MCMDO Code of Conduct.
