Type of Employment: One year Contract

Job Summary:

The Protection Officer will provide technical leadership and day-to-day management for all Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Child Protection (CP) interventions in Yalo Woreda. Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the Officer ensures that specialized services including case management, the operation of the Women and Girls Friendly Space (WGFS), and dignity kit distributions are survivor-centered, safe, and integrated.

Core Duties:

  • Supervise the WGFS and ensure child protection and GBV activities meet IASC and national minimum standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to caseworkers and assistants on complex intake, safety planning, and follow-up for high-risk cases.
  • Establish and update functional, multi-sectoral referral pathways (health, legal, MHPSS) within the Woreda.
  • Lead the identification of beneficiaries for Dignity Kits and Cash for Protection, ensuring a “Do No Harm” approach and strict vulnerability criteria.
  • Conduct awareness sessions and trainings for community protection committees and volunteers on GBV prevention and child rights.

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Law or other related fields.
Experience
  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in protection programming (GBV/CP) in emergency or displacement settings.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of survivor-centered approaches, GBV Guiding Principles, and Case Management protocols.
Language & Communication
  • English & Amharic: Professional fluency (written and spoken)
  • Afar’af Proficiency in the local language is a significant advantage for effective community engagement
Commitment
  • Willingness to work full-time in remote field locations to provide direct support to crisis-affected populations.
  • Absolute commitment to PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) and the MCMDO Code of Conduct.
