I. Organizational Context

Innovative Humanitarian Solution (IHS) is a non-profit/humanitarian organization dedicated to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children. We work in emergency and conflict affected Areas in Afar, Amhara, Tigray,and Benshamngul Gumz, Regions to create protective environments for children and Crisis affected people. We are seeking dedicated and experienced Child Protection Officers to join our team and lead frontline efforts to identify, prevent, and respond to child abuse, exploitation, neglect, and violence.

II. Job Purpose:

The Child Protection Officer will be responsible for the direct implementation and monitoring of child protection activities within the assigned area. This includes case management for vulnerable children, community-based programming, capacity building of local stakeholders, and ensuring the integration of child protection principles across all sectors. The officer will act as a key advocate for child rights and a focal point for child protection concerns.

III. Key Responsibilities

Case Management & Direct Support

  • Proactively identify children at risk through outreach, referrals, and community networks.
  • Provide psychosocial first aid (PFA) and basic emotional support to children and caregivers.
  • Manage referrals to specialized services (health, legal, mental health and psychosocial support) and follow up to ensure services are accessed.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date case files using approved tools and databases.

Community-Based Programming & Prevention

  • Facilitate the establishment and strengthening of community-based child protection mechanisms (e.g., Child Protection Committees, youth clubs).
  • Organize and conduct awareness-raising sessions for children, families, and communities on child rights, positive parenting, and protection risks (e.g., gender-based violence, child labor, early marriage).
  • Support the setup and supervision of safe spaces for children and adolescents.
  • Engage men and boys as allies in child protection and gender equality.

Capacity Building & Coordination

  • Train and mentor community volunteers, partner staff, and other frontline workers on basic child protection principles, identification, and referral pathways.
  • Represent the organization in local child protection coordination meetings (e.g., Child Protection Sub-Cluster, Case Management task force).
  • Work closely with other sectors (Education, Health, Livelihoods) to mainstream child protection.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Advocacy

  • Monitor and report on child protection trends, incidents, and service gaps in the area of operation.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly activity reports and contribute to donor reports as required.
  • Document success stories and lessons learned.
  • Support advocacy initiatives to address systemic child protection issues.

IV. Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree/master’s in social work, Psychology, Sociology, Law, Community Development, or any other related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in child protection, preferably in an NGO or humanitarian setting for masters and 4 years foe bachelor
  • Proven experience in child protection case management, including documentation and follow-up.
  • Strong understanding of child development, child rights, and national/international child protection standards.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with children and adults from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging environments.
  • High level of personal integrity, empathy, and resilience.
  • Good command of English
  • Knowledge of Local Context will be considered as an asset

Safeguarding and Compliance

  • Ensuring compliance with IHS`s PSEA, Child safeguarding, Anti-fraud and others policies.
  • Ensuring Code of conduct and prevention from sexual exploitation and abuse policies and uphold the highest standards according to her/his area of responsibility.
