Job Description

Tearfund Ethiopia is looking for an Assistant Finance Officer for its Ethiopia Drought Joint Response project (EDJR) funded by Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA). The Ethiopian Drought Joint Response will be implemented by 5 international and 8 national organisations: Tearfund is one of the international organisation Implementing this project together with the Ethiopian Kale Hiwot Church Development Commission (EKHCDC) in East Hararghe Zone Midega Tola woreda.The project targets the most vulnerable, food insecure population of the community, who will receive multi-sectoral assistance, with a focus on Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH, and Multi-Purpose Cash. Throughout all activities, protection will be mainstreamed. Other cross-cutting themes are localization and accountability to affected populations.

The Assistant Finance officer will be responsible to manage all payments, administrative tasks and cash management duties of the Ethiopia Drought Joint Response project (EDJR) funded by the Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA).

Key responsibilities includes:

  • Prepares cash vouchers and corresponding checks for proper disbursements.
  • Effects petty cash payments, prepares petty cash replenishment and reconcile petty cash balance
  • Effects payments for duly authorised purchases of material or services
  • Office management (office equipment recording and storage, supplies purchase and controls usage, filling, etc)
  • Communications (letters, internet/emails, and reception)
  • Provide support to the Finance and Admin Officer
  • Ensure availability and proper use of office supplies
  • Provide support to head office HR, Logistics and Finance team
  • Proper documentation of Finance and Administrative files
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by line manager

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Diploma in Accounting, Supply Management, Office Management, Business Administration or related field of study.
  • Minimum 2 (two) years of relevant professional experience in a similar position
  • Good understanding of Bookkeeping/accounting records and principles
  • Good attention to detail skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work quickly under pressure
  • Patience and an ability to remain calm
  • Reliable, confidential and honest
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Office and application of Internet/email and systems)
  • Strong communication skills with oral and written proficiency in English, Amharic and Afaan Oromo

This role will be based in Harar, East Hararghe, Oromia regional state, Ethiopia and it requires fluency in local languages, therefore Ethiopian nationals will be given preference for this role.

The recruitment process will include specific checks related to safeguarding.

In addition, personal identification information will be submitted against a watch list database to check against criminal convictions as a counter-terror measure.
