German Leprosy and TB Relief Association Ethiopia (GLRA Ethiopia) is a non-profit international NGO working in the field of Leprosy and other NTDs, Tuberculosis, Humanitarian aid, Socioeconomic rehabilitation and research; the marginalized and susceptible community members being a priority target. Currently, GLRA Ethiopia is planning to implement a 24 months project entitled “Strengthening Food Security for Leprosy-Affected Families in Kombolcha, Dessie, and Kuyera Settlements, Ethiopia” and its implementation will start as soon as possible.

The project targets households affected by leprosy in Kombolcha and Dessie (Amhara Region) and Kuyera/Shashamene (Oromia Region), who continue to face chronic poverty, food insecurity malnutrition, and marginalization, with little or no access to essential services, such as food assistance, livelihood opportunities, and national safety net schemes. This project responds to these needs by address acute food insecurity and promoting sustainable resilience among individual affected by Leprosy.

Job Purposes:

The main objective of this role is to oversee and facilitate the execution of the specified project. This position will be located in Dessie and Kuyera; and applicants need to specify district they are applying for in their application. The project officers will report to the GLRA Ethiopia CBID team leader in Addis Ababa, as well as to the relevant government sector in the project town and zone.

 Summary:

  • Strategize, arrange, coordinate, and engage actively in the implementation of the project.
  • Collaborate closely with the relevant government offices in in the project area(local administration and zone),
  • Persistently focus on building networks and partnerships with relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of the project.
  • Identify and select beneficiaries together with community representatives and government offices.
  • Deliver food assistance in accordance with local and international standards.
  • Assess income generation opportunities that are suitable for the capabilities of individuals affected by leprosy.
  • Organize, facilitate, and deliver entrepreneurship training for beneficiaries, assisting them in managing small yet profitable income-generating activities with minimal startup support.
  • Support eligible individuals affected by leprosy in accessing social protection programs, especially safety nets and health insurance, by enhancing community awareness about the processes for obtaining these benefits and by building the capacity of local associations and partners.
  • Organize and facilitate events and meetings, engaging in discussions with relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify and facilitate the provision of all necessary logistics for project implementation in collaboration with the respective districts and GLRA Ethiopia.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups on the status of beneficiaries.
  • Strive to ensure that beneficiaries are protected from harmful actions.
  • Prioritize the security of beneficiaries in the project area and implement all necessary measures to protect them from potential harm.
  • Implement and monitor project activities, reporting the status to GLRA Ethiopia, and partners.
  • Monitor and supervise project implementation sites in collaboration with other stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper utilization of project resources and report this to GLRA Ethiopia, and local partners.
  • Record and compile project activity performances, reporting them to GLRA Ethiopia, and local partners.
  • Collect case stories, best practices, and report on lessons learned, challenges faced, gaps identified, corrective measures taken, and recommendations.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by the employer.

About You

Job Requirements and Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to social work, accompanied by at least three years of experience.
  • A Master’s degree in a field related to social work, with zero prior work experience.
  • Proven experience in conducting and coordinating fieldwork associated with humanitarian assistance.
  • Strong proficiency in English.
  • Experience in non-governmental organizations is preferred.
  • Experience in disability and inclusive support.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Outstanding networking skills.
  • Familiarity with the local language.
