Job Title: Qualitative Researcher

Duty Station: Field-based (in different regions of the country).

Reports To: Project Manager/Team Leader

Duration of contract: one month but to be kept in roster for future potential opportunities.

Job Summary

The Qualitative Researcher will lead and conduct qualitative research activities, including designing qualitative tools, facilitating interviews and discussions, and ensuring high-quality data collection and documentation. The role focuses on gathering in-depth insights through qualitative methods such as Key Informant Interviews (KII), In-Depth Interviews (IDI), and Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and contributing to analysis and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and adapt qualitative research tools and interview guides for KIIs, IDIs, and FGDs.
  • Conduct Key Informant Interviews (KII) with stakeholders, community leaders, and relevant experts.
  • Facilitate In-Depth Interviews (IDI) with selected respondents to gather detailed information.
  • Moderate Focus Group Discussions (FGD) with community members or target groups.
  • Ensure proper informed consent and adherence to ethical research standards.
  • Record, document, and organize qualitative data including audio recordings, field notes, and transcripts.
  • Ensure the quality, completeness, and accuracy of collected qualitative data.
  • Participate in data coding, thematic analysis, and interpretation of qualitative findings.
  • Contribute to research reports, presentations, and dissemination of findings.
  • Work closely with the research team to integrate qualitative findings with quantitative results when applicable.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree (MPH/MA) or PhD in one of the following fields: Public Health, Economics, Statistics, Social Sciences and Development Studies
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in qualitative research for Masters and 2 years for PhD.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting KII, IDI, and FGD in research settings.
  • Experience in qualitative data analysis and report writing.

  • Knowledge of research ethics and confidentiality practices.
  • Good understanding of local culture, community dynamics, and social contexts.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel to field locations.
  • Ability to work in diverse community settings.
  • Experience using qualitative data analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti, or similar tools) is an advantage.
