Job Description

Ethio Wetlands and Natural Resources Association EWNRA) is a civil society organization, non-political, non-religious and non-for-profit working in areas of sustainable wetlands/ natural resources management livelihoods improvement with the aim to achieve the dual goals of environment and development in Ethiopia. EWNRA, with funding secured from Forests of The World (FoW), is implementing a project entitled Enhancing Forest Governance and Livelihoods (EFGL) in Southwest Ethiopia Regional State, Sheka zone, Masha woreda and Oromia Regional State Ilu Ababor Zone of Nedhi-Nono woreda. Currently, EWNRA is looking to hire two experienced professional (one for Masha and one for Nedhi-Nono) to fill the following vacant post in the aforementioned project.

Salary: -as per the organization’s scale

Terms of employment: -one-year (12 months) contract with possibility of extension based on successful performance.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of and reporting to the EWNRA Southwest Ethiopia Metu area coordinator, the Woreda level Livelihood and Forest Governance facilitator will have the following duties and responsibilities:
  • In close coordination with EWNRA Southwest Ethiopia Metu coordination office and in collaboration with local government institutions lead day-to-day project implementations within the project intervention kebeles and report on the project progress and achievements.
  • In collaboration with the local government experts, undertake regular and extensive field visits and provide on-job trainings as deemed necessary to support community-based organizations and individual farmers to strengthen their capacities in the areas of forest friendly livelihood interventions and other livelihood options as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the overall facilitation of project activities towards the engagement of multi-stakeholders, particularly community-based institutions (JFM and Marketing cooperatives, Saving and credit cooperatives) and their members, local government institutions pertinent to the purpose of the program.
  • In collaboration with government staff provide appropriate technical supports to strengthen the livelihoods of forest dependent communities and the forest governance situations of the PFM institutions
  • Guide trainings for communities and development agents on pertinent topics in relation to agro-forestry practices, community-based nursery management, fruit production, compost making, strengthening SACCOs and other relevant topics;
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly progress reports and submit to the site coordinator and EWNRA Southwest coordination office on timely basis,
  • Perform other organizational and project related tasks that may be required by the coordination office.

Qualification and experiences

The potential candidate for the post should have Bachelor Degree (BSC) from recognized universities/ colleges in Natural Resource management, climate smart Agriculture, Forestry and /or related field. Besides s/he should have at list four years and above demonstrable work experience in areas of participatory forest management (PFM), local (community) institutions development, soil and water conservation practices, climate smart agriculture (CSA) practices, community livelihoods improvement, community consultation and rural appraisal, development and establishment of cooperatives, etc. NGO experience is an advantage.

Knowledge of local language is mandatory,
