Job Description

Tearfund Ethiopia is looking for 25 volunteer Community Facilitators for its Digital Anticipatory Response (DAR) Project at different Borena zone districts. DAR project is designed to assist Agro-pastoralist, marginalised communities by providing trustworthy timely weather forecasting information, agricultural advisory services, improved access to financial products, and fast, simple, parametric cover for extreme climate events to lessen the burden of losses in uninsured pastoralist and farmer communities organised in cooperatives and saving groups.

The Community Facilitator (CF) will be responsible for organising and empowering Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Cooperatives, and building a strong social community institution network in Borena. The Community Facilitators will be an agent for insurance services.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Degree and/or equivalent qualification in Social Science, Rural Development Disaster Risk Management, Computer Science  and related fields of study
  • Entry level (with no experience)
  • Basic Knowledge using mobile technology
  • Passionate about community service
  • Knowledge of culture, norms, beliefs and geographical areas of the target zone and woredas

The successful applicant will also have:

  • Strong resource and community mobilisation skills
  • Interpersonal, communication, facilitation, training and networking skills
  • Agile and responsive personality
  • Organised and task driven
  • Good computer skills (MS Office, Google Suite, Email and internet usage)
  • Oral and written fluency in English, Amharic and Afaan Oromo

This role will be based in Borena Zone,Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia and it requires fluency in local languages, therefore Ethiopian nationals will be given preference for this role.

The recruitment process will include specific checks related to safeguarding.

In addition, personal identification information will be submitted against a watch list database to check against criminal convictions as a counter-terror measure.
