Job Description

Duties

Serves in the Political/Economic section of the U.S. Mission to the African Union (AU). Prepares factual and analytical reports on economic-related policies and activities to advance U.S.  priorities with the AU and its 55 member states.

Develops and maintains contacts at the AU, UN economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), other diplomatic missions, companies, and Pan-African organizations on issues related to the broad economic portfolio; assists embassy officers with meetings, visits, and trips. General supervision by U.S Economic Officer. Has no supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of five years’ experience in any field requiring knowledge and analysis of current events pertaining to economics and/or host country economics.

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in economics, international relations, business, finance, or environmental science is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:

  • English-Proficiency in reading/writing/speaking is required. (This may be tested.)
  • Arabic, French, Portuguese, Spanish or Kiswahili or any other African language-Good working knowledge in reading/writing/speaking is required.  (This may be tested.)
