Job Description

Professional Translation of the English Version  of  Prison  Monitoring Report  Executive Summary, Findings and Recommendations.

Background

Center for Justice (CJ) is a member of the Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO), an umbrella organization of 17 local Human Rights CSOs mainly working on human rights, rule of law, democracy, good governance, and peace building operating in all regions of Ethiopia. Established in 2007, Center for Justice is a local human rights and advocacy organization, dedicated to working with prisoners, juveniles, children, women, PWDs, and their communities nationwide to reach their full potential by promoting their rights and tackling the causes of human rights violations and injustice. CJ is advocating for the advancement of rule of law, human rights, access to justice, democratic governance, peace and the progressive reform of Ethiopian criminal Justice System. The organization is re-registered under the FDRE Authority for Civil Society Organizations through proclamation number 1113/2019 with registration number 0865.

CJ in partnership with EU CSFIII is implementing a project aimed at enhancing the protection of human rights of vulnerable groups of prisoners in Ethiopia through strengthening the capacity of right holders and duty bearers, promotion of prisoners’ rights in line with the international human rights standards and the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (the Nelson Mandela Rules) and better access to justice and their rehabilitation and social reintegration. In line with this CJ is planning to translate the recently produced English Version of  the  Prison  Monitoring Report on the human rights situations of prisoners with specific focus on access to justice, detention conditions and the root causes of vulnerability to HR violations  by commissioned consultants  .

Translation of the English version to local languages such as Afan Oromo and Amharic will result in better understanding of the monitoring report. Therefore, it has become necessary to translate the report and make it accessible to the pertinent justice actors playing pivotal role in safeguarding them. Hence, CJ would like to hire qualified consultants for the translation of the prison monitoring report executive summary, findings and recommendations.

General Objective

The general objective of the translation of the prison monitoring report executive summary, findings and recommendations is making the executive summary, findings and recommendations easily understandable to the law enforcement personnel and increase their awareness.

Specific Objectives

  • To translate the prison monitoring report executive summary, findings and recommendations to Afan Oromo  a maximum of 25 pages
  • To translate  the prison monitoring report executive summary, findings and recommendations to Amharic a maximum of 25 pages

Deliverables

  • Translated  prison monitoring report executive summary, findings and recommendations in Afan Oromo
  • Translated  prison monitoring report executive summary, findings and recommendations in Amharic

Time Frame

The translation should be finalized and submitted within 10 days.

 

Required Number of Consultants—- 2 ( 1 for Afan Oromo and 1 for Amharic)

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience Required

  • The lead consultant should have experience in similar undertaking and a Master’s degree (LLM) or higher in law is required.
  • The Consultant/firm must have expertise in conducting similar consultancy works.
  • High level of written and spoken English  and Afan Oormo or Amharic languages
